George F. Mulkins
Bainbridge, NY
On March 28th, 2015 George F Mulkins joined the Celestial Lodge on high to work in the quarries for the Supreme Architect of the Universe. He was born on March 15, 1933 to the late Frank B and Orrilla (Wright) Mulkins in Oneonta N Y. He had 3 siblings, two brothers, Deforest and Harold, who pre-deceased him, and a sister, Mrs. Francis (Eloise) St Onge of Burnt Hills, N Y, and several nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Oneonta High School in 1950, he graduated from what is now Broome Community College with a degree in Electrical Technology.
It was there that he met the love of his life Helen Myers, who survives him. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage. Although he received many honors, the joy of his life and the thing of which he was most proud was his family. Together with Helen he had 4 daughters who survive him. They are Lois Shelton, Barbara Spalholz, Ruth Domago, and Patti MacCheyne. They in turn brought 4 men into our family David Shelton, Wilfried Spalholz, Peter Domago, and Fred Anderson, with whom he spent many happy hours.
He and Helen were blessed with 5 grandchildren, Erika, Jessica, George, Sara, and Jacob, and seven great grand children, Ryan, Renae, and Annabela, Zoey, Jace, Sammy, Kensi.
He enjoyed 39 years of working in Engineering first for Bendix Scintilla, then Allied, and finally Unison Industries, where he became Manager of Engineering. He retired in 1992 and moved to Brooksville Florida, where he resided at the time of his death.
He served the community of Bainbridge in both the Fire Department and Emergency Squad. He served the Emergency Squad as its Captain during the initial 5 years of Operation. He was in the Fire Dep't for 29 years, serving in many capacities, including Fire Chief. He served as both the president of the County Fire Chiefs Association, and as Chairman of the County Fire Advisory Board. He was honored by his peers, as Fireman of the year at both the local and County Level.
He was proud to be a Freemason for over 61 years and served as Master for the old Susquehanna Lodge, later serving as District Deputy Grand Master for the Broome Chenango District. He and Helen also enjoyed membership in the Order of the Eastern Star, where he served as Patron of the local Chapter 4 times, later serving as District Grand Lecturer of the Broome Chenango District. He also enjoyed working with young people in whom he always placed his trust. He was able to serve as Assistant Scoutmaster and later as Post advisor for a co-ed Explorer Post. In early years he was active as a member of the First Baptist Church of Bainbridge serving in many capacities.
His greatest joy was in doing for others, especially his family, although his health in later years curtailed his activities, but not his love and his pride in his family.
