John G. Howland, Jr. 85 of Sidney passed away Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the NYS Veterans Home in Oxford.
He was born October 28, 1926, son of the late John G. and Hazel (Baxter) Howland in Walton.
John served his country in the United States Army from 1945 to 1947. He received the Army of Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal and was honorably discharged.
He married Jocelyn Holley on June 15, 1950 in Walton. She predeceased him on June 22, 1994.
John was employed as a supervisor for E.C.D. of Bendix in Sidney when he retired.
He was also a member of the Sidney American Legion.
He is survived by:
4 Daughters and 3 Son-in-laws - Nancy and Randy Livingston, Unadilla
Sarah Howland Church, Bainbridge, Carolyn and Joe Boldue, Walton and Marilyn and Kevin Halloran, Yuma, AZ.
7 Grandchildren - Scott Finch, Tammy Green, Amanda Church, John Paul Halloran, Thomas John Halloran, Christopher Howard, Kenny Howard.
And 12 great grandchildren.
John is also predeceased by his Son Paul Howland, Sister, Ruth Cobb and grandson Roger Finch, Jr.
Friends may call Thursday, February 9, 2012 from 6-8 PM at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney.
Funeral services will held at 11:00 AM Friday, February 10, 2012 in the funeral chapel. Rev. Brian Cutting, pastor of the Unatego Community Church in Unadilla will officiate.
Burial with Military honors will follow in Walton Cemetery. The family would like to invite friends to the Sidney American Legion at 2:00 PM on Friday. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the charity of ones choice.
