George M. Palmetier Afton, NY George M. Palmetier, 69, of Afton, NY passed away at his residence on October 20, 2011. George was born in Bainbridge, NY on May 14, 1942 to the late Robert F. and Helen (Baciuska) Palmetier. He is survived by his wife, Maryann; his loving sons: George R. Palmetier (Tammy Rae) and Robert J. Palmetier (Julie), all of Afton, NY; his daughters, Susan Race (David) of Brisben, NY and Linda Appleton (Edward) of La Palma, CA; all of his loving grandchildren, who were the light of his life: Abraham Scott, Veronica (David) DeMarmels, Charlotte Fey, Nathan and Brent Appleton, Brittany, John, Kimberly, Emily and George Palmetier, Robert (Jeanne) Bunzey, Billy (Amanda) Bunzey, and Joseph (Rachel) Bunzey; great grandchildren: Nora Grace, Graham Thomas, Colin and Caelyn; his sister, Doris (Tony) Fouquet and their children Michelle, Tony and Sonya; his brother, David (Terri) Palmetier of Hilton Head, SC; uncle and aunts: Veto (Lillian) Baciuska, Frances Baciuska, Lynnette Baciuska (all of Afton) and Sue Palmetier of Trout Creek and his beloved companion, his dog Nemo. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his sister, Mary Ann Palmetier. George lived his entire life in Afton. He worked for the Village of Afton with his father for many years. In 1966, he started working with the D&H Railroad, which later became CP Rail, where he retired as an engineer after 37 years of service. He was well known for his Famous Barbeque Chicken at Hope Church in Afton that he did with his son George. George was well liked and respected by many. He enjoyed visiting with all. The greatest enjoyments of his life were his grandchildren and helping his son, Robert, on the farm. He was a John Deere buff and greatly enjoyed the time he could spend driving tractors. He had many wonderful friends, and he especially treasured his friendships with his "Railroad Buddies." Friends are invited to call from 2:00-5:00pm on Sunday, October 23, 2011 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney and on Monday, October 24 from 1-2 PM at Hope Congregational Church 129 Main St. Afton. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM at the Church. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Afton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hope Church. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.landersfh.com.
