Charlotte Taylor Cole, 95, passed away on April 29, 2011 following a short illness. She was born July 5, 1915 in Masonville, NY, the second daughter of the late Warner and Minnie (Puffer) Taylor. On November 26, 1942, she married George W. Cole, who predeceased her. Charlotte graduated from Bainbridge Central High School with the class of 1933. She also attended the Ridley-Lowell Business Technical Institute in Binghamton, NY.
Charlotte was employed by the Borden Chemical Company, Inc. and after a 42 year career in the Personnel Department, retired on May 1, 1982. She was also a 40 year member of the Borden Quarter Century Club.
Charlotte has been a member and involved with the First Presbyterian Church in Bainbridge, NY since 1925.
Although Charlotte was never blessed with children of her own, she truly considered all of her nieces and nephews as her own family.
Charlotte enjoyed her sports and music. Initially, she was a charter member and secretary for the Monday Night Ladies League at Afton Golf Club. During the summer, she attended the Oneonta Tigers Baseball games with dear friends the Judds and Colfs.
In 1948, Charlotte was a Charter Member and for 3 years served as secretary of the Susquehanna Women's Bowling Association, now the Chen-Del-O Association. She bowled on the Wednesday Early Birds league and the Thursday morning Leagues. In 1998, Charlotte, with her friend Bea Green and Viola Marcellus, were the first women inducted into the Local Bowling Association Hall of Fame. She was a lifetime bowling member for 60 years. Last, but not least, a great fan of the B-G girls JV and Varsity basketball teams. She was a long time active member of the B-G Alumni Association and on the Audit Committee.
Charlotte was an active member of the Tri-Town Toastmistress' Club until it's closing. In 1968, she joined the Tri Town Business and Professional Women's Organization (BPW). During the early part of her 42 year career, she served as Treasurer and Recording Secretary.
Charlotte enjoyed music, reading and sending cards to family and friends on all occasions, being with family and friends meant so much to her. She enjoyed a long friendship with her dear friend Marion Swart.
Charlotte was predeceased by her sister, Alice, and her husband, Carlton Wilcox; her brother, Samuel and his wife, Helen Taylor; sister, Ruth T. Olmstead, and brother-in-law, Everette A. Gilmour.
She is survived by her sister, Pearl Parsons Gilmour, and her brother-in-law, Wilson (Turk) Olmstead. Also by nieces and nephews: Ben (Carolyn) Wilcox, Douglas (Judy) Wilcox, Dennis (Loretta) Wilcox, Judy (William) Jenkins, Emmett (Sandra) Talor, Phillip (Patricia) Taylor, Vincent (Kathleen) Taylor, Richard Olmstead and friend, Diane, Roxanne (Gerald) Birdsall, Kathy (Paul) Cummings, Vicki (Stephen) Bush, Nancy (Stuart) Schrier, and Patricia (Kenneth) Babcock; as well as many cousins and grand nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at the Presbyterian Church, South Main Street, Bainbridge, NY 13733, with Rev. Diarmuid O'Hara, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Bainbridge at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
