Doris K. Dean, Sidney
Doris K. Dean, 73, of Sidney passed away unexpectedly on April 23rd of heart failure due to complications from pneumonia, at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City.
Doris was born June 4, 1937 in Sidney, to William and Mary (Cullen) Kinch. She attended Sidney Elementary School and then spent much of her childhood in Binghamton, graduating from St. Paul's High School as salutatorian in 1955. She then returned to Sidney and was soon engaged to Bill Dean. They were married on June 8, 1957 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Doris worked in the Sales group at Amphenol her entire career until taking early retirement in 1993, and then returned in 1995 as receptionist for several years, before finally retiring with more than 50 years of service.
Doris was an active member of the daily morning Mass group at Sacred Heart Church and recently served as Secretary for the Rosary Society. She was also a Board member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks. Doris may best be remembered for caring for numerous people through extended illnesses and other difficult times, starting with her own mother while she was just a teenager. In recent years, she helped several of her now departed friends when they were in need of assistance and support.
Doris is survived by her son, Michael Dean, and his wife Cynthia, of Forest Hill, MD; her daughter, Patricia Murray, and her fianc William Ashcraft, of Norwich; dear grandchildren, Sean Murray of New York, NY, and Melissa Dean of Raleigh, NC; two sisters, Jean Hulbert of Hooper, Utah and daughters Mary and Renee; Nancy Ives, her husband Jim and sons Jeff and Jerry, of Guilford. She is also survived by the extended Knych family of Indianapolis, Indiana, who were a tremendous source of happiness, particularly over the last 15 years: sister-in-law and brother-in-law Joan and Ed Knych; their daughters, Carol Stevens, her husband Greg, and children Eddie, Jack, and Joanie; Kathy Dapper, her husband Bob, and daughters Katie and Sarah, and Chris Ugo, her husband Pete, and children, Maria, Monica, Mark, and Matt. Doris was pre-deceased by her parents and her husband of 37 years, Bill.
The family will greet friends Tuesday, April 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at C.H. Landers funeral chapel 21 Main St. Sidney, NY. Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 15 Liberty St. Sidney. Interment will be at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Church.
