Obituary of Richard S. Moffitt

Richard S. Moffitt Bainbridge, NY Richard S. Moffitt, 61 of Bainbridge, passed away early Wednesday morning, August 11, 2010 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. Richard was born on November 27, 1948, son of William and Alice (Barnard) Moffitt in Sidney. Richard joined the United States Marine Corps. in 1966, and was honorably discharged in 1969. He was incredibly proud of his military service. On June 30, 1969, Richard married Mary Cummings in Durham, NC. He was a truck driver for 33 years, working for Coventry Transport in Coventry, NY. Richard was an avid outdoorsman: he loved to hunt and fish, and just be in nature. A member of the NRA, his gun rights were very important to him. Especially lately, Richard could often be found sitting out on his porch. He loved his family, and was deeply loved in return. He will be truly missed. Richard is survived by: Wife of 41 years, Mary Moffitt Bainbridge Three children: Loretta Moffitt of Oneonta, Chad Moffitt and his wife, Nancy of Afton, and Tammy Garza and her husband, John of Houston, TX 9 grandchildren: Derek, Brandon, Samantha and Marissa; Tony and Heather Caratelli; and Joelyn, Sarah and Hunter. Mother and step-father: Alice and Herbert Sines of Tennessee Brother, Don Moffitt of Afton Step-mother: Thelma Moffitt of North Carolina Step-brother and step-sisters: Gary, Cindy and Shawn, all of NC As well as several nieces, nephews and cousins Richard was predeceased by his father, William Moffitt, his grandmother, Iva Barnard, his sister, Beverly Gowan and a grandson, Garth. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 13, 2010 at 3:00pm at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838, at which time military honors will be rendered.
