Matt was one of my best friends who will always be in my heart. I remember meeting him when I moved to Sidney in Kindergarten. He was one of my 5 buddies “The Gang” as my parents would jokingly call us. From playing army in the woods behind our homes, drinking countless cases of Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Matt’s famous Miracle Whip sandwiches and summers filled with Nintendo olympics on the running pad, watching every Wimbledon, waking up at the crack of dawn to play tennis, basketball, baseball, golf, or just the excitement of getting together on days off, I will always remember those times. As we grew older some of our activities went with age, including marking our IDs so we could share in .50 cent pitchers of beer amd dancing while meeting you at Albany U. They were fun times including our Mets Yankees World Series and countless nights at the Community Lounge when I came back to visit. I will always cherish those memories and times spent with Matt. Matt was a brilliant mind and compassionate soul. From time to time we would disagree on how we saw the world, but there was always one constant we always reminded ourselves about, and that was we were always friends first. Matt I will forever miss you and thank you for always being a friend to me. Love you always.

I remember every Thursday you me and Clyde Archer would pack in the car and head to Afton golf course to play a round of golf there wasn't a week that we didn't wreck a cart or at least 2. I remember how before you were 21 I sold you my license because we look so much alike so that you could drink at the community lounge sorry Matt's mom for influencing your son all those years ago. I remember the day that we went to the baseball field in Sidney and played homerun Derby with Brian Lathan pitching. I'll miss all the fun times we had we may not have seen eye to eye all the time but I love the discussions we had I'll miss you brother. To we meet again

Hey Matt. I loved hanging out with you at Friendsgiving. You were so much fun to talk to, and my Matt loved you too. He said he couldn’t wait to hang with you again. That was a great night.

To Matt’s family:
As a past student of mine, I can remember Matt’s calm soul in a chaotic gym. Things would whirl around him and he seemed unfazed. I think back on that now and wish I had just a touch of his serenity. We were all lucky to know him. Peace to you all in the coming months.
Love, Loraine (Butcher) Flyzik
