Obituary of David Michael Winn
DAVID MICHAEL WINN
Mike Winn, 68, of Bainbridge died Friday December 8, 2017 at home after fighting pancreatic cancer.
Mike was born in Oneonta, NY to John F. and Dorothy M. Winn Thursday, February 24, 1949. Mike attended Sidney schools prior to graduating from Bainbridge-Guilford in June 1967.
At a very early age Mike started working at John’s Garage, a business his father started in 1956. After his father’s passing in 1993, the Winn boys carried on the family business. Mike’s pride for the garage ran deep. One of his passions was going on wrecker calls. When you met the wrecker on the road, Mike was likely behind the wheel.
Mike loved his ’36 Ford Coupe, almost as much as his grandchildren. He enjoyed taking family and friends for rides. He was an avid player of cards and yard games and a passionate fan of the Yankees, Giants, and NASCAR.
In 1968 Mike was drafted into the Army and served in Vietnam as a Motor Pool Mechanic with the 25th Infantry Division. Mike was a member of the Corp. Ralph H. Arrandale VFW Post #7914 of Sidney, and the American Legion Post #806 of Bainbridge. Mike served on the Bainbridge Town Planning Board for over 30 years. He briefly worked on the Sidney Veterans Memorial Park committee until his illness prevented him from doing so.
Mike is survived by Phyllis (Hubbard), his loving wife of 49 years; son Michael (Janet) of Rochester, NY, and their children Casey, Ryan, Tommy, and Haley; son Hugh (Stefanie) of Rochester NY, and their children Callie and Jack; siblings and their families John “Pat”, Jerry (Corleen), Frank (Carol), Tom (Colleen) and Mary Lou Winn.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy and sister-in-law, Nancy (Morris) Winn.
Visitation will be held at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St in Sidney on Friday December 15th, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at C.H.
