Obituary of Albert E. Pope

Albert Elliot Pope (Al), 78, of Mt. Upton, New York, passed away on Dec 8th 2015 in Norwich, NY. Albert was born in the town of Mt. Upton to Glenn and Fanny Pope on May 12th 1937. He went to high school at Mt. Upton Central High School. He worked as a Miller for HB Curtis and Company for 30 plus years and also worked as a custodian for the Mt. Upton Gilbertsville school district for 20 plus years following that. He enjoyed his family foremost but also loved working with wood and gardening. He served as a volunteer fireman for more than 50 years filling many positions locally and county wide including chief of the department for more than 15 years. Albert is survived by: his wife of 58 years, Linda L. Pope (Ostrander) of Mt. Upton; sisters: Alberta Ives and Kathleen (Steve) Brown; seven sons and daughters: Albert (Dorothy), Nancy LoPresti (Edward), Wayne (Susie), Jeff (Teresa), Timothy, Connie Wildenstein (Brian Banks), Dennis; and 17 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren and many Nieces and Nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Elsor (Minnie), Eleanor (Lester) Winfield, Niles, Ivan Sherwood and granddaughter Katrena Pope. Friends and family are invited to call on Thursday December 10th from 5pm to 8pm (with a Fireman's service at 7:00pm) at C.H. Landers Funeral Home 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral service will be held at the same location on Friday, December 11th at 11 am with Reverend Justin Hood of the Mt. Upton United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery, Mt. Upton. Memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, P.O Box 417005, Boston MA 02241-7005.
