Obituary of Robert Lee Backus

Robert Lee Backus, Afton, NY Robert "Bobby" Lee Backus 67 of Afton passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Bridgewater Center, Binghamton, NY with his family. Bobby was born on July 7, 1948, son of the late Dwight and Anna Hromada Backus in Afton, NY. Bob was a graduate of Afton Central School. He was employed with Borden Chemical Company in Bainbridge, he retired after 27 years. He loved to hunt and fish in his spare time and was a ticket-taker at the Walton Fair for many years. Bobby loved people and people loved him. He also attended Afton United Methodist Church. Robert is survived by daughters, Michelle (Daniel) Lamb, Sidney Center and Elizabeth (Jason) Larson, Afton; 5 Grandchildren, Jayden, David, Oliver, Abbie, and Devon; sisters, Julia Gardner, Sidney, Rosie (Peter) Browning, Afton, and Lydia (Jayre) Proffitt, Palm Coast, FL.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Robert is predeceased by his brother, Eddie. Friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main Street, Sidney Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, September 28, 2015, at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Fred Albrecht officiating. Burial in Glenwood Cemetery, Afton will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Afton Food Pantry, 38 Spring Street, Afton, NY 13730.
