Maretta Barnhart, 94, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at home. Maretta was born on December 6, 1920 to Raymond and Minerva (Tompkins) Banks in Beaver Kill, NY. Maretta was married on August 21, 1941 to the late Kenneth H. Barnhart in Livingston Manor, NY. Maretta was a past member of the Guilford Center Presbyterian Church and enjoyed quilting. Maretta served her country in the Civil Air Patrol where she served watch in an observatory for 350 hours. Maretta is survived by three children: Terri Barnhart, Bainbridge, James (Ruth) Barnhart, Conway, SC, and Thomas (Kathleen) Barnhart, Binghamton, NY; four grandchildren: James Jr. (Marcia) Barnhart, Unadilla, NY, Roger (Marlene) Barnhart, Binghamton, Brian Barnhart, Bainbridge, and Edward Barnhart, Salt Lake City; and 4 great-grandchildren: Katelyn Barnhart, Buffalo, Michael Chesney, Pennsylvania, and Jared and Lindsey Barnhart, Bainbridge. Maretta is also survived by a brother, Ted (Bertha) Banks, Binghamton, and a sister, June Smedley, Bainbridge. In addition to her parents and husband, Maretta was predeceased by her son, Kenneth Jr., brothers, Raymond Banks and Robert Banks; and sisters, Eleanor Banks and Doris McCaslin. A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Greenlawn Cemetery, 42-54 Greenlawn Avenue, Bainbridge, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Chenango County Hospice, 21 Hayes Street, Norwich, NY 13815. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family online at www.landersfh.com. Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney.
