To Mr. Smith's family--I met Mr. Smith only briefly just before Memorial Day at Walmart in Oneonta. I bought my poppy there. I told him I was so glad to see someone selling them. It has always been such a part of Memorial Day to me.
We went on to chat and I got quite a history lesson/review.
I had quite a few other things to do and could not stay longer to chat although I wished I could have. He was so pleasant and obviously committed to his project.
I'm sure he will be missed by many. May all your memories help you thru this sad time.

You will not recognize my name because you do not know me. I am the Commander of the D.A.V. Binghamton Chapter. I noticed your husbands name in the Press Sun Bulletin. Your husband was in country around the same time I was. I try to send my condolences to all my Brother-in Arms that I see are no longer with us. It is my honor to say farewell to another veteran who served in Vietnam with my brothers and I. As long as there is one of us left he will never be forgotten. May God bless him and keep him in his hands until we all meet again after our last big battle. We all came back, but none of us ever really came home. May god bless all of you in this time of mourning.

On behalf of Corp. Ralph Arrandale VFW Post 7914, Sidney, NY I would like to offer our prayers and condolences to the family of Ed Smith. I had the honor and privilege of both meeting Ed and marching with Ed on Memorial Day. Ed called cadence as we marched down Main St. and he made sure we didn't miss a step. He will be missed by both his family and his extended military family.
