Helen Teresa Zaczek Nurek
Helen (Babci) Nurek, 94, of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 25, 2015. Helen was born November 26, 1920 in Cannonvsille, the daughter of the late Florin and Josephine Zaczek. On January 30, 1944, she married Stanley J. Nurek, in Deposit, NY and together built, owned and operated the Algonkin Motel in Bainbridge until 1974 when they moved to Unadilla. Stan predeceased her in January 2003 after 58 years of marriage.
Helen spent many years as chairman of Tri-County Fresh Air. Helen was a longtime member of the Women of the Moose, Chapter #502 in Sidney, NY.
She was a loving and devoted mother and Babci. She was blessed with three sons: David and Joanne of Sebastian, FL, Steven and Elma of Belleview, FL and the late Gary Nurek; three daughters: Carol and Wayne Hall of Delhi, Joann and Edward D'Aurora of Arizona and Barbara Turner of Palm Coast, FL; three sisters: Annie Morley of Oneonta, Jenny Gould of Binghamton and Josephine Rillo of Albany. Helen was also blessed with 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and son, Helen was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Eric Turner.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Monday, June 1, 2015 at Sacred Heart Church, 15 Liberty St. Sidney, with the Rev. Fr. Gordon Polenz, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Afton. Memorial gifts in her name may be directed to the Sacred Heart Church.
