Betty, Darren, Therese and Tracy, Erna and I extend our condolences to you. We feel you are fortunate to have enjoyed so many happy times with Charlie. Jean and I certainly did.
Here is a small story about Charlie that was so typical of his wry sense of humor. I knew that elm is no good as a firewood because it leaves a dangerous deposit inside chimneys. Since Charlie knew a lot about such things I asked him whether elm would become usable if it sat outside in a woodpile long enough for it to really dry out. "Oh sure," he told me. "If you let it dry out you can use it." How long should I let it dry, I asked. "Oh...about 150 years."
We wish we could offer hugs to all of you, but Erna is out of town and I am out of the country.
