I'm so sorry for the loss of my Great-Uncle...my warm condolences. My Mom, Marion Fisk Stead and her sister, Leta Fisk Williams, asked me to leave their condolences as well. They could not have asked for a nicer, sweeter Uncle, and have many fond memories. Marion's favorite memory is of the picnics they used to have together. Prayers to the family.

I had the great pleasure of playing alongside Connie in the Sidney Community Band. Connie was a very talented clarinet player, and inspired all of us not only with his playing, but also with his fun and joyful personality. We all loved Connie just as much as he loved playing his clarinet, and he will be greatly missed.

We cannot begin to express the loss that we feel here at the Unadilla Town Hall. Connie's vast knowledge in his position as Assessor was a great asset to the Town and the community. His dedication to the job at 94 years old is an inspiration to all of us. Even in the hospital, he was willing to take on work so that this years work could be completed. The day to day camaraderie between all of us has a special meaning to each one of us. Ten o'clock will always be coffee and graham cracker time at the Town Hall. Your smile and your laughter will be greatly missed, but always remembered.
We love you Connie,

We were so sorry to hear of Connie passing away. we have only had the privilege of knowing this very kind man for about a year but the few times we were around Connie he would always make us smile. Connie was so kind and always had a smile on his face. recently he played his clarinet for my family and friends at a get-together and we all enjoyed listening to Connie play. You could just see and feel the joy he felt when he was playing. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time. Connie will be missed by us all.

Heaven will be a much lovelier place with Connie present. The sounds of his music, the brilliance of his mind, and that smile that was able to put a smile on everyone he met. Conny and my father were great friends and often co-conspirators in their trades and farming methods. I will miss playing clarinet with him, he truly was an inspiration.

Uncle Connie and Aunt Ruth were a remarkable couple with a special love and bond they shared for years. When I first met them I was instantly drawn into their warmth and love and made me feel like they knew me for years. Russ and I met through our love of music as both of us belonged to barbershop harmony choruses. On one of our visits to Aunt Ruth and Uncle Connie's the four of us sang for hours with Aunt Ruth playing the piano and Uncle Connie dabbling with his clarinet. With the wonders of Facebook we were able to stay in touch with Uncle Connie. Uncle Connie had a special sense of humor and his laugh was infectious. He will be missed by all.

As I often said as announcer for the Sidney Community Band, "Music is ageless and timeless". It was always my way to segue into a mention of our oldest and dearest member Connie Schlafer. And he LOVED to sit next to the school kids, who learned a lesson on that very fact: Music truly IS ageless and timeless.
His enjoyment of music was genuine and his love of life contagious. We often spoke of tunes from many years ago...and once we actually got to "jam". His clarinet sang some sweet songs that night, and all I had to do was keep the beat on drums. It was a magical time for us both.
My parents also cherished what Connie offered during their time at East Guilford Presbyterian Church. They join me in offering heartfelt condolences to the family.

How do you describe "Connie",only one word will do and that is "remarkable". On my last visit with him in the Nursing Home we talked and looked at pictures of animals on my laptop that I captured using a game camera. After about an hour and a half I asked if he was getting tired. He responded by saying "just a little, I've been up since 6:30 and haven't had a nap yet", at 94 no less !!. Having grown up in East Guilford I knew Connie for most of my life and after returning from the military I started working for him in 1971. In 1985 Connie retired but he NEVER STOPPED LIVING, his life was proof of that. I will miss him but have many fond memories to hold on to. Susan and I offer our deepest condolences to you, Judy,Kathy,Joanne and all the family for your loss.
Sincerely, George and Susan (Schlafer) Smith

He had a smile that would not only make his eyes sparkle, but make ours sparkle too, just talking to him. We are so grateful to have known him and have felt like he was part of our family too. You were very lucky to have had him 94 years! Please accept our sympathy, and as you will, we will miss him too!
