Obituary of Stanley L. Nordberg

Stanley L. Nordberg Sidney, NY Stanley Lewellyn Nordberg, 88, of the NYS Veteran's Home in Oxford and formerly of Sidney, peacefully went to be with his Lord on Sunday, July 22, 2012 at Chenango Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness. Stanley was born in Fargo, North Dakota on June 25, 1924, to the late Dr. Gustav and Theodora Nordberg. The family settled in Oneonta where at 9 years old he met the only woman he would ever love, Norma Catherine Clint. He graduated from Oneonta High School with the Class of 1942 and began his 42 year career at Scintilla the following September. Stanley enlisted in the Navy, where he served during World War II. He married Norma on October 2nd, 1944 and upon his discharge on February 2, 1946, returned to work at Scintilla and settled in Sidney, where he and Norma raised four lucky children. Stanley is survived by his four loving children, Dawn Smith and Jay Barton, Joanne and Chick Darling, James and Lee Nordberg and Stanley, II and Phyllis Nordberg; 12 Grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Ethel Beams of Sarasota, Florida and several loving nieces and nephews. Stanley was predeceased by Norma in 2008, his wife of 64 years, his grandson Lance Holden, his granddaughter Shawn Nordberg, his siblings, Marlys, Helen, Thorman, Gertrude, Ralph and Aleda, and his beloved boxer, Sadie. Friends may call at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main Street, Sidney, on Friday, July 27th from 10:00 AM to Noon. Funeral services will begin at noon at the funeral chapel. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery with a military service for Stanley and a committal service for Norma as well.
