Obituary of Alice H. Sergio

Alice H. Sergio Sidney, NY Alice H. Sergio, 90, of Sidney passed away Friday evening, February 20, 2009 at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford, NY. Alice was born on October 29, 1918, daughter of the late Robert and Emma (Brown) Holley in Walton, NY. She was a graduate of Walton High School Class of 1936 and SUNY Oneonta in 1939, receiving her Bachelors Degree in Education. Alice was a teacher for both Walton and Downsville schools, but the majority of her career was spent teaching at Sidney Elementary School, where she retired from in 1978 after 40 years. On June 27, 1943, Alice married Joseph Sergio in Walton, NY. He predeceased her on December 30, 1985. Alice was a member of the United Methodist Church of Sidney and was active in numerous organizations within her church. She was also a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Assocation. Alice was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother; she will be greatly missed. Alice is survived by: 2 sons: James and Gail Sergio Oxford Gary Sergio and Claudia Jenkins Sidney 1 granddaughter: Kristen and Darron Stanton Oxford 2 Grandsons: Joseph Sergio Rochester Robert and Stacy Benton East St. Louis, Ill. 1 Great-Grandson: Nicholas Benton 2 sisters: Roberta and Joseph Kistner Walton Hazel Gray Canajoharie, NY 1 brother: James and Peg Holley Walton In addition to her husband, Alice is predeceased by a brother, Hilton Holley. Friends are invited to call on Wednesday February 25, 2009 from 6:00-8:00pm at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main Street Sidney, NY 13838. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 11:00am at the United Methodist Church of Sidney, 12 Liberty St. Sidney, with Rev. Barbara Green, pastor officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at Walton Cemetery, Walton, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Alice's memory may be made to the Sidney United Methodist Church, or to the Patient Care Fund, c/o NYS Veterans Home 4211 State Highway 220, Oxford, NY 13830. Arrangements under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney.
