James A. Morrow 86 of Afton passed away Sunday, January 8, 2012 in Oneonta.
He was born Alexandria Bay, NY on April 16, 1925. He was son of the late Earl and Evelyn Bradford Morrow.
Jim attended Sidney High School, Class of 1944. He enlisted in the US Navy in July of 1942. He took basic training at the Great Lakes Naval Station. During WWII, he served in the European Theatre aboard the USS Marblehead doing patrol and convoy duty. He also served aboard the USS Savannah escorting FDR to the Yalta Conference. He volunteered for the Frogman program which was the predecessor of the Navy Seals. In the Pacific he served with the underwater demolition team. After the war, he returned to Bainbridge and married Ethel Meade. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years in 2002.
Jim was a lifelong member of VFW in Afton and was employed by Continental Telephone Co. He retired as a supervisor from Chenango Bridge office in 1984.
Jim is survived by three sons and their spouses, Donald C. Morrow (Becky) of Endicott, Richard Morrow (Kay) of Afton, David "Skip" Morrow (Nancy), Sidney
Sister and brother-in-law - Kathleen and John Bickos, Cortland
Grandchildren - Ann Marie Morrow (Mikko Tavi), Helsinki, Finland, Jeremy Morrow, Nineveh, Kim Butts (Chad), Bainbridge
Precious Great Grandchildren - Katya Tavi, Daniella Tavi and Wyatt Butts
Step Grandchildren and their families - Joe Cummings, Dorothy Burke, Ginger Garren.
Also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also predeceased by his sister, Jean Meade, infant brother Donald and James Robbie Morrow, his namesake.
Upon his wishes there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Afton Emergency Squad in Jim's name.
Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney.
