It's with great sadness I light a candle for Pat Lynch. Yet it's also with a smile on my face as I recall some memorable moments. Moments such as helping him move because I was the only one he knew who could drive a standard-shift U-Haul. Or in 2007 when brother Vinny was inducted in the Sidney Alumni Sports Hall of Fame, he pre-paid an auction bid on an autographed football because a co-teacher at Afton
was a huge fan of that player (and the football was donated by brother Mike!) Oh and the year he was a varsity baseball coach and he even wore a uniform that fit!! There's plenty more, but for now, rest in peace Pat. You'll see your parents, Timmy and Matt. Love and peace to all the family

We will all miss the Pat we knew when he played a major part in our lives - as a husband to Monica, as a father to Erin and Rory, as a brother to Dan, Pete, Mike, Vinny, and Joe or as a friend to many. My favorite memories are from the family Thanksgivings with games of football and of course the canoe regattas. I will miss Pat's smile and laugh. Sincere sympathy to the family.

To a host of young people at our school, Pat will remain the teacher, mentor, and friend who made a difference in their lives. His warm and gentle manner, his exuberance for their accomplishments and his guidance in their defeats were hallmarks of his enduring impact on us all. Thank you, Pat, for your friendship and for the example of your generous life.

A few years ago, after not having spoken with Pat since high school, I encountered Pat at the Sidney Memorial Library. He was, I believe, working on his masters degree, and his father was there with him. Although it had been roughly 25 years since our paths had crossed, we recognized one another immediately. Then, just as in high school, Pat was gracious and kind and not at all self absorbed. In that brief meeting, with Pat standing beside his father, it occurred to me that Pat was very much like his father; the Dr. Lynch, school superintendent, that I remembered observing a classroom - quiet and unassuming, yet very perceptive. My sincerest condolences to his beloved family.

I remember Pat from high school. I went up against him as a guard in a JV / Varsity game and he knocked my helmet sideways and flattended my nose! That guy could hit! Rest in peace Pat. I hope to connect to the rest of the family at another time.

As I walked down the hall at Afton Elementary this morning I noticed a new bulletin board created in your memory. Your photo in the middle surrounded by hundreds red hearts, in the red hearts were messages and memories from the children and staff. It brought both, tears to my eyes and a smile to my face. You truly touched the lives of so many in such a positive way. Afton lost one of their finest, and I'm proud to have called you my children's teacher. May you rest in peace Mr. Lynch.

I am saddened by the loss of another great Lynch son, Patrick. I first met Patrick in 1975 when I came to Sidney and immediately wished I could have been in Sidney sooner so as to have the joy of getting to know Patrick when he was in Sidney High. Nevertheless what was so wonderful about Patrick was his warmth and smile and big heart. I know he was a great teacher and that his legacy as such will live on forever. He will be sorely missed but never forgotten.

Our sincere condolences to the entire Lynch family... Mr. Lynch was truly one of the "good guys"... I remember coaching baseball with him early on in his stay at Afton. I will never forget how sincere of a man he was - always looking out for the kids. Our oldest son was blessed to get to know you last year for gym class (kindergarten) - when we had to explain to him what had happened he said to us: "Mr. Lynch was so nice" and he went on to say that he wanted to go to heaven and see you again... Until then, rest in peace Mr. Lynch... you will certainly be missed by all.
