While it is never something to wish for in terms of an obituary, I am pleased that there will be a local service for the mother & step mother of many of my peers from the 1970s in Sidney. As I had said on FaceBook, Betty was always smiling and seemed to create a spark wherever she went. As we approach our class of 1976's 35th reunion, we remember not only our deceased classmates but the special influences such as Betty who made our childhood that much better.

My first memory of Betty that I still think about today, was how, while sitting at the Whitney table for breakfast, she and Paul said thank you to each other after passing the French toast! (Not that we didn't say thank you at our house, but they were just so much in love and so happy!) She was a very kind and loving lady.
My heart goes out her entire family.

Dear Susan, I am so sorry to the loss of your mother, Betty Lou(she was always Betty Lou to me). I knew your mother growing up but I left Sidney in 1956 and we lost touch. She was always a very nice lady and I was happy when she married Paul. I have a picture of her on our "old track team" which I would like to get to you. I did meet you one time when I was shopping with my daughter, Colleen. I know your mother is with God and at peace and not suffering anymore. My thoughts and prayers are with all your families.

Sue, no matter the circumstance, no matter the age, it is very difficult to lose a beloved parent. I just wanted you to know I still vividly remember Girl Scout meetings in your Cherry Street (?) home basement. Your Mom was a very patient leader and if memory does serve me right, always wore a dress and an apron, as well as that smile! She was so pretty. My sincerest sympathy to you; please extend my condolences to Cindy Whitney - only a year behind us (?) in high school - to all of your family.

Betty was phenomenal person, one of those who make the world a better place just by being in it. We will miss her beautiful soul.

I never had the opportunity to get to know Aunt Betty as much as I now wish I had. I will always remember the times that my Mom & I did go to visit her and all of my cousins. She always made me feel very special – as if I belonged right there all the time. My best memory, and the one that touches me the most, is when her own mother, my Grandma Dutcher, passed away. I went to the funeral and the gathering afterwards. All of the grandchildren had been given a little gold Guardian Angel pin, but I had been somehow left out. She came over to me and gave me a hug, asked me if I had gotten my pin, and when I said no, she took her own special little pin and put it on my collar. I still have that special little angel pin, and the special memory that goes with it. My sincere condolences go out to everyone in the family. She will always be in my memory and in my heart.

I wasn't one of the lucky ones, I never had the opportunity to meet you...or did I ? I think I met you through loving your family. God bless, and thank you, for the legacy you gave to all of us in Sue.

Betty Lou was always a ray of sunshine in Sidney highschool where I remember her as a good friend. Her pretty eyes and sweet smile lit up the room wherever she went. She was just a sweet person, always caring, always in a good mood. I will cherish the memories that I have of her and offer condolences to Paul and all the family. She will be missed by the many, many people who knew her.
