Obituary of Joseph P. Millus

Joseph P. Millus Sidney, NY Joseph P. Millus, 85, of Sidney, and formerly of Bainbridge, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 17, 2011 at the New York State Veterans Home at Oxford, where he was a resident since October of 2009. Joe was born on March 22, 1926, son of the late Joseph and Constance (Zelinsky) Millus in Forest City, PA. Joe entered the United States Navy in 1943, serving on a destroyer, the USS Wadleigh, in the Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1946. On November 5, 1949, Joe married Thelma Moore. She predeceased him On October 6, 1979. Joe was a longtime employee of Borden's Chemical Company in Bainbridge, retiring after 48 years of service. Joe was a member of the Corporal R.H. Arrandale VFW Post 7914 in Sidney. He was a dedicated member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sidney, as well as the Knights of Columbus. Joe was also a former member of the Bainbridge Fire Department, serving at one time as 2nd Assistant Chief. Joe loved to boat, and was a member of the Sidney Boating Club, which he truly enjoyed. He also enjoyed camping and boating at Sylvan Beach. Being the proud veteran he was, Joe also attended the USS Wadleigh ship reunions with his daughter, Deb. Above all else, Joe loved spending time with his family, his "sweetie pie", Jessica and his "little buddy", Christopher. Joe was a wonderful person, and would give away the shirt off his back to someone in need. Everyone who met Joe, loved him, and he will be deeply missed. Joe is survived by: His daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Timothy Blanchard of Binghamton Grandchildren: Jessica L. Olsen and her fiancé, Shawn McBreen of Binghamton Christopher Joseph Olsen and his wife, Jessica C. Arguinzoni-Olsen of Baldwinsville Sister-in-law, Mildred Moore of Lake George, NY Nieces and Nephews: Gary and Heidi Sopko of Randolph, NJ, Ron and Jenifer Sopko of Vestal, and Connie and Bob Evans of Bainbridge As well as several cousins, great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Joe was predeceased by: His in-laws, Joseph and Hilda Moore, brother and sister-in-law, Victor and Mary Millus, sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Peter Sopko, sisters: Blanche Millus Namisnak and Helen Millus, sister-in-law, Mary Moore Dauley, brother-in-law, Joe Moore, and nephew, James Millus. Friends are invited to call on Monday, June 20, 2011 from 4:00-8:00pm at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at 11:00am at Sacred Heart Church, 15 Liberty St. Sidney. Fr. Gordon Polenz, pastor, will celebrate. Committal with military honors will take place at 9:00am on Saturday, July 23, 2011 in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joe's name may be directed to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org or to the charity of ones choice.
