Grandpa...you are a wonderful, kind, caring man, you taught me to live life to the fullest and to be happy! Most of my favortite childhood memories are of being on the farm, thank you for giving me that opportunity. I love you! In my eyes, you are someone that will live on forever!

I will never forget Ed, my brother-in-law. Use to scare me sometimes but for the most part he was a good, funny person. I have a picture of Ed and me. He is on his "cycle" and I am holding books. One of my favorite pictures. Sorry I didn't get to visit much in our later years but your memory will go on forever.

Mr. Searles, as you were always known to me, I will miss stopping and visiting with you as you cut fire wood and worked your farm. In my teen years I enjoyed you letting me hunt woodchucks in the summer and deer in the autumn. You were a very kind man to me and my family. You will be greatly missed here on the hill. God bless you and your family during this sorrowful time.

Death comes with such a hard thud even when you know it might be soon. I have known Ed since May 1941 when we moved to Searles Hill. Having a picnic out back was so full of good food and laughter. Ed planted lots of cucumbers so Marie and I could make him Ripe Cucumber Pickles like his mother's. It was so fun.
