Obituary of Eleanor McComb

Eleanor McComb Walton, NY Eleanor McComb, formerly of Staten Island and Walton, NY passed away on February 12, 2011 at Chenango Memorial Hospital. For the past five years she has resided at the Pearl and Everett Gilmour Health Care Facility in Norwich, NY. Eleanor was born on February 28, 1920 to Arthur Zeluff and Isabel Decker Zeluff of Staten Island. She was the youngest and last surviving girl of seven girls. On March 21, 1942, she married James W. McComb, who passed away February 20, 2002. Eleanor is survived by a daughter, Sharon Ortell of Norwich, and a son, William J. McComb and his wife Marguerite of Parsippany, NJ. Four grandchildren: Shayla Ortell of Winchester, VA, Erica Ortell and her husband Brad Hibbert of Portsmouth, RI, Major Peter Ortell USMC and his wife Dana of Albany, GA and James W. McComb of Syracuse, NY. Three great grandchildren: Peter James, Ashleigh and David Ortell of Albany, GA. Eleanor was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was devoted to her family and loved it when we were all together at Trout Creek. She will be greatly missed, but we know she is dancing with Dad once again. The family would like to thank the staff on the third floor of Gilmour for the kindness and friendship shown to our mother. We extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Mulik, Dr. Cook and the wonderful nurses on the third floor at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich for the care and compassion they provided to our mother and family during this difficult time. It will be forever appreciated. Calling hours will be from 11:00 to 12:00 on Saturday, February, 19th at the C H Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, NY. The funeral will follow immediately at 12:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Make a Wish Foundation of Central NY, 5005 Campuswood Drive, E. Syracuse NY 13057.
