My condolences to the Armour family for their (and our) loss. He was a teacher and coach that was strongly admired. I fondly remember Mr. Armour as a calm, collected and kind social studies teacher in Middle School and as my coach in Spring and Winter Track. I know that he touched many lives in his years at Sidney Schools. Though I haven't seen him in a number of years, I am thankful for the opportunity given to me to know him.

Larry not only touched the lives of his own family but the lives of his many colleagues and obviously his many students. His tedious role of negotiator on behalf of his colleagues enabled many of us to move ahead in the work world. Larry's quiet demeanor and strong attention to detail in the classroom provided for a meaningful experience in the classroom for all his students. And, his many athletes over the years can reflect on not just a good coach but a "cheerleader" who was always positive and supportive. Our prayers go out to Tigi, Brendan and Brittany and their respective families.

my husband Scott and I were both blessed enough to have Mr. Armour as a teacher and a coach. All Sidney kids will forever remember trying to collect a current event from every one of the United States, and hopefully will share this project with their own children. Good teachers leave a lasting impression, and we are proud to have his mark on us! Thank you Mr. Armour, may you rest is peace.

My condolences to the Armour family, Tigi, Brittany, and Brendan. You are all in my thoughts and prayers!! Mr. Armour will forever hold a special place in my heart, he was not only my coach but he was a mentor, a role model, and someone I had a tremendous amount of respect for. He taught me many valuable life lessons that I carry with me today. He showed me patience when I was irritated when I wasn’t jumping as good as I would have liked, or when I couldn’t get “my mark right. He taught me not to be discouraged and ever give up. I knew no matter how “bad I jumped, I could count on him to be proud of me, I could always count on a smile and encouragement. These are all valuable lessons I learned at an early age that I try to model my life by today. I am just one example of a student/athlete who’s life was forever change and positively affected because of him. I know he inspired and touched the lives of MANY people who were lucky enough to have met him!
SOME PEOPLE
Some people come into our lives
and leave footprints on our hearts
and we are never ever the same.
Some people come into our lives
and quickly go... Some stay for awhile
and embrace our silent dreams.
They help us become aware
of the delicate winds of hope...
and we discover within every human spirit
there are wings yearning to fly.
They help our hearts to see that
the only stairway to the stars
is woven with dreams...
and we find ourselves
unafraid to reach high.
They celebrate the true essence
of who we are...
and have faith in all
that we may become.
Some people awaken us
to new and deeper realizations...
for we gain insight
from the passing whisper of their wisdom
Throughout our lives we are sent
precious souls...
meant to share our journey
however brief or lasting their stay
they remind us why we are here.
To learn... to teach... to nurture... to love
Some people come into our lives
to cast a steady light
upon our path and guide our every step
their shining belief in us
helps us to believe in ourselves.
Some people come into our lives
and they move our souls to sing
and make our spirits dance.
They help us to see that everything on earth
is part of the incredibility of life...
and that it is always there
for us to take of its joy.
Some people come into our lives
and leave footprints on our hearts
and we are never ever the same.

Because of his love for students and history, Mr Armour touched many lives over the years. Memories of him as my teacher back in the early eighties is one of a very kind, gentle soul.A dignified, soft spoken man, and a great role model. He also had a way of keeping us entertained and interested, even if some of the subjects were not interesting.Be cause of him I developed a love of reading the news and wondering what was going on in the world outside of the little town of Sidney. Outside of school, I remember him as a good neighbor and friend of the Schirmer family, and enjoyed spending time visiting with him and his family. I'm happy to have known him.He was a great influence in my life.

My thoughts are with you and your family Tigi. He was one of my favorite people and I loved him as a teacher. I still remember the map we had to make to chart the formation of the United States. Color coding the states as they became part of the US, marking the Erie Canal, Mississppi River, the trail of Lewis & Clark, Interstate 90, etc.

My heart goes out to Brittany, Brendan, and Mrs. Armour as well as to Mr. Armour's friends, former colleagues, fellow coaches . . . and to everyone who was affected by the exceptionally long reach of a man who was truly one of the most gentle giants I've ever met. It's hard for me to ignore a feeling of saddness for the world having lost such a rock that so many surely leaned on. But I hope that everyone will find some comfort in reflecting on the great fortune that we all had to know such a man and in the ability to continue to lean on the memory of the shining example that he provided for us. What I will always carry with me was the sense of stability that Mr. Armour provided. No matter what the stressful situation was -- a track meet, a history test, contract negotiations (I imagine), or just the general angst of being a teenager -- everyone always knew that they could count on a confident smile from Mr. Armour. I hope that we can all find some comfort in the memory of that strength.

Mr. Armour and I met by the most wonderful circumstance, the union of our two children.
Larry was a kind gentle man with a great smile and quick wit. He loved my daughter as his own and was the best grandpa (bob-bob) ever. Larry helped others without hesitationt, he moved me twice and I am very appreciative. He was just someone you could count on no matter what the circumstances and was solid as a rock. He was a wonderful role model by his character and the way he always put others before himself. I am really happy to have known Larry and happy that Heather and Abby were touched by his gentleness and caring.

One of the by-products of the Sidney Alumni Sports Hall of Fame is the chances some get to make a "last statement". In the 8 years of this endeavor, I have seen the pride and humility of several inductees and/or support folks.
In 2010, Larry Armour spoke with such love, emotion and pride for Wendy Simonds Weidman during her induction. I will never forget that moment. The same goes for Tom Robertson for his 64-65 wrestlers, Tonsee Smith during his induction and others.
From a personal standpoint, I was in Larry's first class as a full-time teacher, 8th grade social studies. He later allowed a bunch of us who had joked about the rifle team to stage a "challenge match" against his state-caliber team. Oh man were we bad! A new respect was born that day and continued on with Larry for Athlete of the Week interviews, where his passion for the student-athletes came through in his words.
My condolences to the Armour family - thanks for sharing him with so many Sidney students, athletes, teachers and parents for 30+ years. That includes my son Kevin, who played one year of soccer for him.

Oh my, Tigi! Now I see why you didn't call me back. I do so wish I had known. Larry was such a kind and special person. No one who knew him will ever forget him. He looks so handsome in this photo, but I shall always picture him in that long coat commanding his cannon crew! He left us way too young. My heart goes out to you and yours, but oh how many wonderful memories there must be for you to cherish.
