Thelma Marie Cottell, age 98, passed away on November 2, 2024. She was predeceased by her husband, John, and son, Mark. She is survived by three sons and spouses: David and Bonnie, Coventry, NY, Scott and Yvonne, Maple Valley, WA, and John Jr., Monroe, CT. Her nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren were her pride and joy: Jeromy and Jill Cottell with daughter Skylar, Jennifer Williams with her sons, Evan and Lucas, Trevor and Kristen Cottell and son Brecken, Jered and Kara Cottell with sons Max and Cody, Verity and Bret Swearingen, John III and Sadie Cottell, Eileen Cottell, Timothy and Olivia Cottell with daughters Teagan and Darcie Rose, and Adam Cottell.
Thelma retired from Konica Minolta in Ramsey, NY and aside from raising four boys, she was involved in breeding, training and showing German Shepherds and Welsh Terriers in obedience on the East Coast and Canada. In 1990, she and John moved from Oakland, NJ to Coventry, NY to be close to son David and family.
For many years, Thelma worked with a church group making sleeping bags for the homeless. She was also involved with the Hope Church. She was an avid reader and jigsaw puzzle enthusiast who loved the outdoors and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds and animals that visited her backyard.
Traveling the country on senior bus trips was always the highlight of her summers, along with joining the golf league for many years and the bowling league in winter.
At the convenience of the family, burial will be at the Afton Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney, NY. Condolences and memories may be shared online at www.landersfh.com.
