Richard was a very caring man. As teenagers my now husband and I double dated with him and my best friend. He always had a good sense of humor. Later in life we found him caring for those at Afton Edge where my husband's Mom lived. He always made sure her needs were taken care of. God bless his soul and be with his family and friends. Heaven has welcomed a very special angel.

I worked with Dick on NYSDOT and have known him for over 47 years. I worked alongside him many hours working difficult manual labor and he respected those who did so as I did. We had a lot in common and he was a good friend. I am so glad I talked to him recently I will certainly miss him. To all his family and friends my sincere condolences.

We were Blessed to have Dick and his family as our friends. He was a good example to others because of his strong Christian values. His faith in Christ was demonstrated throughout his life. He cared for his family and others as well. He will be sadly missed.

Uncle Dick, Thank you for being such an inspiration to my husband Dave Phelps, our daughter Shania Phelps and our son Anthony Myers. You were like the father my husband always wanted and he admired you deeply. Anthony shared just recently that anytime you saw him at UHS, you put him in an uplifted mood and his favorite memory of you is when you armed wrestled him. Shania looked up to you as a grandfather. Our other kids also will miss your infectious smile, smart wit, and sweet charm. Fly high sir... You will be deeply missed!

I'm so sorry for your loss. Dick was always kind. He never had negative word to say. When we lost our son, Shane, Dick spent hours with Dave consoling him. He will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear about Richard's passing. We worked together at CHIP for 20 years and I was fortunate to call him my friend. He took great care of our complex and our tenants over the years and took great pride in his work. I am sorry I can't make services this weekend. Please know I am thinking of your family during this difficult time. Rose Oliver

I'm so sorry for your loss. Dick was a wonderful man. He helped my mom so much at the edge apartments. He always went way above his duties to help people there. He was always very friendly and smiling. You could here him singing often in the halls. He will be missed

Dick was such a loving and generous person. He helped build our church building. He helped build up the body of Christ with his hugs. He beat us all to Heaven so he could be one of the first to give us a hug when we get there.

Growing up was always a great time when Uncle Dick was around. He always had a way of making everyone know they were loved. I'll never forget the times we shared. The keeper of the grill and the giver of the best hugs and he was never the first to let go. He was always up to singing and telling jokes or forever bribing any kid to say he was better than Uncle Glenn even though they really were a great duo and where you found one there you would find the other. Rest easy your legacy lives on.

Dick and Shari were very faithful youth leaders of First Baptist Church of Afton for many years. I can't begin to tell you how many people over the years they brought to church and church events, gave people rides home and I never heard one complaint from them. I got rides home several times from youth events. My condolences to Shari and all the family.

My favorite memories of uncle Dick have to be when he would stop into Grandma Jo’s house with pockets full of coins and “pay” all us grandkids for hugs, jokes and to say that he gives better hugs than uncle Glenn! Grandma Jo would scold him and he would laugh and laugh. We love you and will miss you uncle Dick! Thank you for always being there for our family.
