This is sad news indeed. Visits to the video store were integral to my son's childhood. Jeremy made it a welcoming environment and always showed a lot of patience with a ,somewhat rowdy, child. I always appreciated his warmth. Our condolences, such a loss.

I didn't have a good time in middle of high school. Kids can be mean. Jeremy wasn't one of them. He liked and was liked by everyone and always ended his sentences with a laugh and smile.
He showed up at my dad's funeral 4 years ago and had encouraging words. What a guy.

Jeremy's intelligence and courage were exceeded only by his boundless humour. His rare thoughtfulness, paired with an optimistic spirit, made him a beacon of light in our family imageries, forever standing alongside my beloved sister Jodie. A more selfless, kind, loving soul could not have been found. An integral part of our family gatherings and photographs - Jeremy will be cherished eternally in memory as the unceasing ray of sunshine he was to us all.

To lose someone that I loved so much brings pain beyond belief. There are no words to ease my pain, my sadness, and my grief. I feel I've lost someone so close, so wonderful and dear. I think about your special ways and wish that you were near. But although you have left this world, you will stay within my heart. Like a guiding angel even though we are apart. For love is everlasting, and so are my memories... Your legacy that is always there, to light the way for me.

I got sweaty and pooped and wondered WTF. Jeremy just smiled and kept me going. For my 50rh birthday, we ran up Masonville Hill. I did it!!! Thanks, Jeremy, you are my hero!!!

It is with heartfelt sadness that I learned of Jeremy's passing. Neighbor, student, XC team member and golf team member, but most importantly my friend, I will always remember and cherish his impish smile and the way in which he welcomed all into his life. Jeremy was the epitome of friendship, posing inquiries as to how one's family was doing. His true interest in how you were doing, despite his own distress and pain the past few years, made him a remarkable individual. I share in this picture how I want to always remember him, full of grit, determination and HEALTHY. May our Lord comfort HIM and his precious and most giving FAMILY. Bob Finnegan

My heartfelt condolences on the loss of Jeremy! I remember him from Tri-Town Nursery School as a kind caring person with a wonderful sense of humor. The kids and teachers all loved him. Do you remember how he always had to wear a dress shirt and tie when he came to school? Fast forward to High School...Al and many other teachers and students thought the world of him as well. Dear Andy, Sue, Jason, and Jamie,
I am completely heartbroken by the loss of Jeremy. He was one of my earliest friends, and remained one as we grew up together, running amok in the neighborhood, and later running amok in cross country. Even as our lives drifted further apart, he was always there, unchanged, whenever I came home. He is the older brother I didn't have, that lived just up the street.
I apologize that I cannot be there for the services, but know that you are all in my heart and thoughts.

To Andy and the Matviak family and friends,
We are so heartbroken to hear of Jeremy's passing. Although we left Sidney over a decade ago, we hold many fond memories of our 25 plus years there, which include many a trip to VEP and time spent joking and chatting with Jeremy. What a kind soul, full of energy and good spirits. Always friendly and accepting of everyone, even us Yankee and Giant fans! Ofcourse, it's no surprise that a good kid would become such a great adult, he came from good stock!! You should be very proud of the son you raised, and the adult he became. We pray you find some measure of peace and comfort in the words people share, and in the memories you hold so dear. This world's loss is most definitly Heavens gain!

I shared this story with Jaime, and I will share a portion here.
I lived on Beale Boulevard, a few years back, where I would see Jeremy and Jodie, hand in hand, walking everyday during the warm months with his dog. Some days he had a good walking pace, others it seemed he struggled. He was so dedicated to his health that I would see them walk in the winter months. Jeremy was the kindest person who was always smiling, and very helpful if you needed assistance in VEP.
My sincere condolences to his family and partner Jodie.

Jeremy,
my lil big brother, from another mother. Since moving to Sidney, you were always the shining light, helping me get me through things, in quick fashion. You were an uncle to my son Logan, imparting great wisdom, and humor, both appropriate and less than. I couldn’t have asked for better friend, and if I did, you would be same guy, because there were no better. People always referred to you as my brother, and Andy as my dad, you never corrected them, truly making me feel as part of your family. We spoke a language through movies and their quotes. Played games at the latest hours, built Lego models to rival the pros, and discussed comics at depths deeper than scholars would examine history, all because we could. The future will be harder to traverse knowing you won’t be there to show me the better way, I promise to look after those you asked me to, as best as I can, I’ll keep the jokes going, and may even ruffle some feathers along the way. I know you are in a better place in a better way, than before, and will be smiling over us all. Shine on man, I miss ye, and love ye.
Yea I know, not that we were gonna pick out curtains. Trust me, I’m pre law,
(I can hear Jeremy saying “I thought you were pre med?”
Together we would say “What’s the difference?”

Dear “Mr. Mayor”, Jodi and family ~
My heart is broken for you. I listed myself as a friend, because Jeremy made everyone feel that they WERE a friend :)
Our family knew Jeremy, first at VE. He knew everyone who came in and made us all feel welcome.
In more recent years, I would be out walking Puggy, alone or with the boys, and see him when he was outside, either with you, Jodi, or alone. He always spoke and even joked. He explained to one of my young walking companions about his condition very frankly and perfectly for a 9 year old.
I am praying for God’s peace and comfort as you begin living life without him here.
He will be missed.
Fondly,
Maria Newell
