Obituary of Isaac Richard Demott

Isaac Richard DeMott Oxford, NY Isaac Richard "Dick" DeMott 93 formerly of Masonville, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown. He was born July 24, 1917 Son of the late Isaac Jay and Helen (O'Keefe) DeMott in Hancock. Dick lived a good share of his life in Masonville where he was a member of the Fire Department. He graduated from Sidney Central School with the Class of 1939. As a child Dick suffered from extremely poor eyesight. He underwent several operations to correct his handicap and was inducted in the United States Army in 1942. He served in the European Theatre during WWII and was honorably discharged in December of 1945. Upon returning home "Ike" (as he was known) went to work for Scintilla in Sidney until he retired. Dick was very active with the Sidney VFW Post. He was past commander and could be counted on to attend all parades to carry the American Flag, (he was the tallest). Dick also attended Sacred Heart Church in Sidney. Dick was a great companion, he was game for any adventure, such as trips to New York for ballgames, to Canada to fish or just home for his birthday. Dick was a resident of the NYS Veterans Home in Oxford for over twenty years. While there he was the librarian and served on many committees. He was well-known and well liked by all. He will be greatly missed. Dick is survived by: Sisters - Marjorie DeMott Dow and her family, Florida Helen DeMott Palmer and her family, Conklin Brother - Benjamin DeMott and his family, Unadilla Many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews Dick is also predeceased by brothers, William and Kenneth and sisters, Mary, Jeanne and Kathryn. Friends may call Thursday, November 11, 2010 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney A mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church Liberty St. Sidney. Fr. Gordon Polenz, Pastor will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Bainbridge. Memorial gifts in Richard's name may be made to the Masonville Fire Department or the charity of one's choice.
