Picking Apples with Grandpa

September 30th, the day before October,
and I went apple picking with grandpa.
I had on my sweatshirt, and he wore a hat that supported the Eagles.
I carried a box, and he carried the picker - two sticks tall, with a red basket.
We filled the box up with Golden Delicious.
Some were sun kissed with pink-tinted sunrise colors.
I ate one and it was sweet, with a dash of tartness.
Then I threw it into the goldenrod that grew as high as my shoulders. I pointed out the big ones,
My grandpa, he looked high through the branches,
at a blue sky, white flecked with clouds,
Cold Autumn winds blew, I picked up my feet and started to fly. "Shoo bug! Go away! This time is just for grandpa and I!"
I hummed a little tune and looked to the house where grandma waited with her hair done up in a neat bun. So we picked up our things and headed back in, but this time...
grandpa carried the box and I the picker.

I am very saddened to hear of the passing of John Wagner. My heart goes out to Liz and the extended Wagner family during this very difficult time. Please accept my deepest condolences.
I have very fond memories of john, he was a gentleman and will be sorely missed.

Uncle John , for all intents and purposes was really the only Uncle I ever knew as all the others died years ago and another wasn't very much interested in our family. What a beautiful, descriptive obituary for John! It brought a smile, as I remember many a chat with him at the dental office. Oh, how he loved his family! I send my condolences to you all.
