Obituary of Bruce L. Alexander
Bruce Launt Alexander, 95, of Sidney, N.Y., passed away peacefully on June 16, 2022. He was born to Ralph Bartow Alexander and Sarah Johnson Alexander in Margaretville, N.Y., on April 27, 1927. He shared his childhood with his brother, Donald Malcolm Alexander. After his mother passed when he was a teenager, he and his family were fortunate to have his stepmother, Sarah Jeanette Alexander in their family for the rest of her life. He graduated high school in Laurens, N.Y., and immediately joined the U.S. NAVY during World War II.
After returning from the NAVY, Bruce married Joyce Mae Alexander (MacDonald) on June 27 in 1954. He was a loving husband and father, and is survived by his wife, Joyce, his children, Susan Alexander of California, Donna Eggleton of Saranac Lake, NY, and Ralph Alexander of Woodbury, Minnesota, four grandsons and several great grandchildren.
In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, and his passion for the outdoors led him to be active in hunting and fishing for much of his life, especially the years he spent as a member of the Methol Hunting Club, not to be hindered by his prosthetic leg. Bruce was joyful and generous, and his infectious smile and laugh lit up rooms. He was also a wonderful gardener, winning ribbons for his beautiful roses.
A private memorial service will be held for immediate family.
Bruce had a prosthetic leg and was passionate about speaking with others who shared in limb loss. Donations may be made to Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (projecthealingwaters.org), which is dedicated to physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled military service personnel and disabled veterans through fly fishing and associated activities, and MIB Agents (mibagents.org), which is a leading Pediatric Osteosarcoma Nonprofit dedicated to Making it Better for its community of patients, caregivers, doctors, and researchers through programs, education, and research.
A Memorial Tree was planted for Bruce
