Obituary of Betty M. Murray
Betty (Betsy) M. Murray peacefully passed away the evening of March 15, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, NY. She was born December 5, 1939 in Mastic, NY.
Betsy was predeceased by the love of her life for 67 years, husband James Murray. She was also predeceased by her mother and father, Marie (Buechner) and William Parr; sisters: Estell Schultz, Barbara Mead and a younger sister.
She is survived by her brother, William Parr and cousin, Chet, sister like friend Millie Martin, and a multitude of nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by son Michael Murray and his wife Colleen (Caragher), their four children: Shamus, Kegan, Bridget, Claire, and eldest son, Sean from his first marriage; and youngest son, Timothy Murray and his wife Wendy (Pikul) and their daughter, Fiona.
Betsy was a telephone operator in Long Island. She also worked at Metropolitan Life in New York City. Betsy retired from Amphenol in Sidney, NY where she worked for many years. However, Betsy's most important and favorite job was being a mother to her sons, Timothy and Michael, and many other children that needed a mother.
As a child, Betsy would spend her summers in Cannonsville, NY and spoke fondly of that time. She graduated from Deposit High School, Class of 1958. In 1974, Betsy and Jim bought property in Guilford, NY and eventually moved up from Long Island to become permanent residents. James and Betsy spent many long, love filled years together.
Betsy was a devout Episcopalian who shared and showed her faith in everything she did. Betsy was a very fun, fiery woman that lived her life to its fullest. Her many hobbies included sewing, travel, cooking, swimming, and crocheting. She loved her clothes and had a sense of style, and she never passed by a mirror without a glance. Betsy and Jim loved to dance and could always clear the dance floor at any event.
A celebration of life and Episcopal Mass will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 1 Church St. Bainbridge, NY 13733 at 3:00pm on Saturday, April 2nd. Luncheon and remembrance to follow.
