James Winchester

Obituary of James W. Winchester

James Winchester left this world suddenly on February 28, 2022 at the age of 75. Jim was a caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Jim was born on June 27, 1946 to Lereau and Bernice (Darling) Winchester of Wells Bridge. Jim served in the Air Force and resided in Otego upon discharge. He was elected to the position of Town of Otego Highway Superintendent at the age of 27 and held this position until his retirement in 2011. Jim was a member of the Otsego County Highway Superintendents Association, serving as President for many years. He was a longtime member of the Otego Fire Department, the American Legion, and Sand Hill Methodist Church. Jim was a multi-talented "jack of all trades" individual who was happiest helping so many people over the years. Jim is survived by his wife Darlene of 57 years. He was a proud father of his two children, Brenda (John) Hurlburt and Shane (Jill) Winchester. Jim is remembered as Pops and PaPa to his family who he loved with all his heart. Troy (Hunter) Hurlburt, Nathan (Kayley) Hurlburt, Haley Winchester, Emily Winchester, Daniel O'Connor, and his little helper great-grandson, Carson Hurlburt, as well as many nieces and nephews that meat a lot to him.
