John was one of my best friends back in the late 60s. We enjoyed going out and drinking, dances at the high school and dramatic plays. I am glad to have known him and sad that he has passed.

John saved my life in 1972. He came to check on me and I had taken the wrong medication after hospital release. I worked with his grandmother Olive Deuel and knew Jack as well. All are gone now and I will never forget you.

Carol and I were shocked and saddened to hear about John after he'd passed. Back in the '70s we had a lot of good times with him. We'll never forget being with him at the Welcome Inn, our place, and parties. I worked at East Sidney Dam with him a summer or two, where he was an original member of the "Pump House Gang" as we called ourselves. What a crew. Another good time.He and I would celebrate Bastille Day, July 14, annually as another ( eclectic) good time. We knew what it was, and that was reason enough. Brother John would be there for you in not so good times as well. He was a good friend to us, and we'd hear from him once in a while even after we'd moved out of the area. He had a good soul even through his own troubles. No doubt he's in Heaven. He's long deserved that.
A toast to you, Brother John, next Bastille Day! We'll miss you.
Our prayers, and may you rest in peace.
Steve, Carol VanderMark

My earliest memory of John and Sonya was when my dad took me to their house next to the hospital in Sidney. We were all quite young and I was a model car enthusiast and John was of course a model ship builder. My dad and his mom sold real estate together along with John's grandmother Olive. John was the manager of my band The Brass Buttons in High School. Over the years we all drifted apart as life will have it. Much love my friend.

John was my neighbor on Hatfield Avenue in Sidney. He was a good neighbor and friend. We worked on a variety of strange, and unsuccessful, projects that lasted into the wee hours. I would occasionally run into him in Sidney and we would have some great discussions. I think he was a kind and gentle soul. God speed John.
