For a number of years now I knew Ed had major mobility problems. But I will remember him in a different way. During our four years of high school together, we both played on JV and Varsity basketball teams. Ed was always in the starting line-up. My basketball career was divided between sometimes starting and more often sitting on the bench.
From either perspective, on the court or on the bench, I always marveled at Ed's ability to gracefully play the game. I would struggle to bring the ball up the court; Ed would glide up the court--somewhat like a deer crossing a meadow. Ed's innate ability to play the game was beautiful to watch. He would pivot twist, turn, and score a basket with such ease.
That is the Ed Gliha image that will always stay with me.

Ed and I were in the same class together. Although I am not sure I knew Ed really well, and I am not sure anybody did, I always found Ed to be an enjoyable companion whether on the basketball court or the baseball field. But everyone knew that Ed's first love was fishing. Everyone knew that when Ed was not at the first baseball practice of the season, he was out fishing because that season opened at the same time. Not only was Ed one of the finest athletes that ever graduated from Bainbridge he was also a very funny guy. I always enjoyed Ed because of his sense of humor as well as his friendliness. He was one of the nice guys and his absence will be missed by everyone.
