I am so, so sorry to hear of Amos's passing. I first got to know Amos and his business partner, Myra Youmans, in the 1980s, when I worked at the law firm that represented their Radio Stations, WDLA and WDLA-FM. I helped Amos and Myra acquire the construction permits for their Deposit and Delhi Stations.
When I decided to leave the firm and to go out on my own, Amos and Myra decided to go with me. That was a gesture of friendship and of professional confidence in me that I will never, ever forget. With mixed feelings, I later assisted them when they decided to sell the group of Stations.
Even after they got out of the Broadcasting business, we continued to stay in touch.
Amos and Myra were delightful clients, and also good friends. I am better for having known each of them. I hope that the two of them are having a happy reunion in the Great Broadcasting Studio In The Sky.

Although it had been years since I saw & spoke with Amos, his lasting impressions are still positive.
In the late 1980s and all of the 1990s, it was a tradition of respect that we’d compare football radio broadcast schedules for our local stations. That resulted because both crews showed up on a snowy day in October 1987 to broadcast Walton at Unatego.
And when Sidney’s football program was suspended in 1995, Amos called to discuss the situation while reminiscing about his playing days for Sidney 40 years prior. Such a gentleman.
Condolences to his family & loved ones. Ultimate respect for a local radio legend….

There are so many memories of Amos I can't begin to mention all of them. I married his cousin Harold K. Howland from Oneonta, in the same church he and Sandy were married in. It was always cousin Amos when he referred to him never just Amos.
So many memories but to the sons please accept my condolences and to Joan (I knew as Joanie) I am so sorry and to his wife Sandy a big hug is headed your way.
Fly high Cousin Amos fly high with the angels.

l remember at the beginning of my senior year, in high school, l was on the bus going to BOCES when l saw a 70 Chevelle for sale. l knew dad and mom had bought my brother a car when he graduated, but this was September! So I talked to him and mom about it and I got it. l had to pay the difference between what he was going to give me towards one but I got it. It took me awhile to pay him back,, but I did it.
l always listened to his advice. Didn't always follow it, but I listened.
l recall one time when my grandfather was visiting, the three of us were out in the garage looking at the Chevelle and they were talking about all of the cars they had had over the years and that they wished they still had them. Well, that stuck with me. l held on to my first 70 for 31 years before I was forced to sell it.
l got a call from dad a year later when I wanted another one and he was my banker again. Thanks dad! Love you.
l got my work ethic and communication skills from him. And his caring nature for his children. l couldn't go to bed until I was fully ready for work the next day. Anyone whose owned their own business, like he and I did, know that. l had a lot of short nights. I'm probably in contact with my kids too much. But it's only because I care about them so much.
He loved to play cards. And enjoyed emailing his friends jokes every day. So many people knew him as "The Voice" on the radio but he was much more than that. Him and mom were always at my football games and wrestling matches. That meant the world to me. Well, I could go on for ever. But I won't.

Deepest sympathy to Sandy, sons, & families. Amos was my husband's childhood friend and became mine in school & especially the Methodist Church Youth, I think he was the kindest, friendliest person I have ever known; always happy, smiling and visitng with all. Perfect strangers often immediately became long time friends. The Walton radio station was his life from a teenager on where he became known to anyone who listened to the radio station. He went oversees with the church Caravans a couple making friends also. He and Sandy have always been a supporter of the Maywood Historical Group of Sidney Center and the restoration and preservation of the abandoned OO&W RR Depot and memorabilia. He will be greatly missed in Delaware County, NY and beyond. May the Peace that passes all understanding be with you,
Phyllis (Betts) Place, personally
and in behalf of the
