Obituary of Mary Edith Pizza
Mary Edith Pizza age 85, of Delhi NY entered into heaven to be with the ones she has missed and adored on December 11, 2021 after a short illness. Mary, also known as Nan was a woman of strong determination and deep faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a passionate woman who loved her family unconditionally and prayed for everyone daily.
Mary was born in Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck New Jersey on Oct 6, 1936. She was the daughter of the late John Berger Lagerberg and Florence Peterson. Mary married Donald Allen Pizza who predeceased her on June 5, 2017. Mary longed for the day when they would be together again as Don was the Love of her Life! This December 21st, they would have been married for 60 years.
Mom and Dad were hard workers who enjoyed a quiet life. They did not have much to speak of except a strong love and commitment to God, their family and each other. Their lives revolved around being there for others and always ensuring their families wellbeing. Growing up, Mary and her family spent many summers on their boat in Long Island where Mary enjoyed fishing, traveling, and spending time in the sun. As a young woman, Mom finally met Dad while on the Jersey Shore and they later married in Hackensack, NJ eventually relocating to upstate New York.
In Mary's later years she especially enjoyed taking care of stray animals, especially cats and dogs, many times taking the animals to the vet and paying the bill. She called it Gods work and did it quietly. She continued this passion in Middletown, NY where Mary & Don spent 25 years of their life taking care of Restorative Farms where she enjoyed gardening, wildlife, birds, music, and reading The Bible. Farm owners, Connie and Vinny were wonderful to our parents and became our extended family to which we are eternally grateful.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Laurie Burpoe and husband Denis of Masonville NY, their sons and families, Justin Burpoe and wife Erin of Oneonta NY, Nicholas Burpoe and fiancé Madisynn Cutting of Wellsboro PA, Michael Burpoe of Navarre FL and Andrew Burpoe of Navarre FL. Mary was loved dearly by her great grandchildren Kellen and Kyler Burpoe.
Mary is also survived by her son, Don Pizza and his wife Sharlene of Warwick NY, their daughters Jessica Christoffel and fiancé Laura Keane of Plattsburgh NY, Amelia and Isabella Pizza, both of Warwick NY.
Mary was also predeceased by her beloved Godly brother, Dave Lagerberg. Dave is survived by his devoted wife Sylvia Lagerberg of Buford GA and their children, Trudy Dobbs and husband Dusty of Buford GA, and Lisa Peden and husband Darrell of Loganville GA. Mary was loved by Trudy's children Austin, Abby and Amelia.
The family would like to thank Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown NY for mom's exceptional care and support during this difficult time. We are very grateful to Doctor Sarina Sharma, her kindness, patience, skill, and compassion during this difficult time were consistent and comforting.
