Linda and family,
Audrey's and my hearts are aching and breaking with yours. Joe's passing at such a young age somehow doesn't seem right. He was always a clean-living, hardworking guy.
As Joe's and my lives diverged after our graduations from good old MUCHS, most of my memories of him involved our mutual involvement in varsity football and basketball. I seem to remember him as having legs that, although they seemed to me to be fit for horseback riding, alright, bowlegged, were swift to run a pattern as an end during football season and like springs when he pulled up for a jump shot during basketball season. His commitment to doing and being the best that he could do and be in both very competitive sports was always evident to his teammates and drove us to be better too.
I also seem to remember Joe's infectious smile, as well as his quick wit and sharp sarcasm, neither of these ever used in a hurtful way and often used to bring out the best in others.
Our shrinking group of MUCHS alumnus has lost another favorite son. He will assuredly be missed.

Two words come to mind if one has spent any time with Joe -Honorable and Hardworking. There was no such thing as "finished work" for Joe. He did what he loved, but I have never known anyone with so much stamina and patience. I always admired his reverence for his land and partnership with his animals. Joe gave so much to the community of Mount Upton and his willingness to help out individuals who lacked his skills will never be forgotten. Once I buried my tractor in mud. Joe was there within minutes with his trusty John Deere. I will always be thankful for the times he came to help me get a draft horse I took in as a rescue up on its feet during the first weeks when it was so thin and weak it couldn't stand for very long. Our Mount Upton community will be less special without you

Linda, Joanne, Brian, Jeff and family, I will always remember Joe’s infectious smile and willingness to provide the best care for the children/faculty at GMU. If I needed transportation for my class, Joe was always willing to go that “extra mile” to make it possible. When meeting him in the hall, he always had a nice sentiment and a smile. May you feel the comforting arms of God surrounding you everyday and especially now during this difficult time. Joe, rest easy, my friend.

I’ll never forget Joe, his ensuring I had transportation in emergency situations is why I graduated High School. He even rescued me once while stranded in Norwich years after I graduated.
I’ll always remember him.
