My name is Debe Cole and Rita was my friend. She attended Riverside Church faithfully for ladies bible study, worship services and prayer meeting every week unless she was away. She was always ready with a word of encouragement or to pray for people. If she knew someone from church was sick she would call them to check on them and pray for them. I remember a few years ago when I attended her baptism service. Her word of testimony was simply, “I love Jesus”. Her faith was simple and childlike, but so powerful. She came to my house last December to make gingerbread houses. Here is a picture of the one she made. I will miss her phone calls and her infectious laugh. Rita made a wonderful impact on the world.

Rita and I had become good friends. I am so thankful I got to meet her through my job. She assisted me with several community relations outreach initiatives, speaking at schools and Boces programs and was a valued member of our team as well as my good friend. We danced together at or annual holiday dance, we chatted on messenger when I could and she kept me company all week long at the fair this year. I was devastated to hear of her passing and miss her tremendously. I send all my love to her family, friends and loved ones and am so sorry for your loss. Rita was a brilliant light that shined teaching us all how to advocate for our needs and desires. She was an extremely caring person and a good friend to so many.

She was very friendly and I have a fun memory of arriving at Molto in the rain when she asked me for a ride home. We had a nice chat in the car. And then just a few days before she passed I saw her at the fair walking around and trying to hold too many things- she had just bought some kettle corn and was having a good time. She was a bright light in this small town. Hopefully she is joyfully dancing (or doing Zumba) in her new home!
