Jeanne McElligott

Obituary of Jeanne G. McElligott

Jeanne Galloway McElligott, 89, of Sidney passed away at Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on August 19, 2021. She was born May 28, 1932 at the family home in Corbettsville, NY to Paul Sanford Galloway and Ruth Walker Galloway. In her younger years she moved frequently with her military family, changing schools 15 times before graduating with honors from Sidney Central School in the class of 1950. Shortly after graduating, she married Raymund Joseph McElligott on September 29, 1950 at the Sacred Heart Church in Sidney. Jeanne and Raymund eventually built their homestead on Mount Moses in East Guilford where they raised their five children. Jeanne loved listening to music and dancing and had fond memories of dancing the jitterbug with her sister Paula back in the day. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, discussing the latest current events, and telling people exactly what was on her mind. She was an avid reader and was always surrounded by a stack of good books. Jeanne was a homebody that was very content with a stiff glass of ice water, a few starlight mints, and an engaging book. Without question, her greatest love was spending quality time with her grandchildren sharing many laughs and using her amazing memory to tell stories about days gone by. Jeanne is survived by her children Jeanne Whitaker, Mark (Karen) McElligott, Mary (Keith) Miley, and Patrick McElligott, 16 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, sister Paula Prindle, cousin Don (Dee) Page, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Jeanne was predeceased by her husband Raymund J. McElligott, son Thomas R. McElligott, brother Earl Galloway, sister Linda Hodges, and her canine companion Jack. Respecting Jeanne's wishes, there will not be a public service. Those wishing to honor Jeanne's memory may make a donation to The Delaware Valley Humane Society, 17420 County Hwy 23, Sidney, NY 13838. Psalm 121: "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth."
