Obituary of Kay E. White
Kay "Mugs" White, 65, passed away on July 23, 2021 after a difficult but courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in 1956 in Oneonta, NY to Theodore and Martha (Riddell) Edwards. She was raised in Franklin, NY.
Following her graduation from Franklin High School, Kay attended SUNY Geneseo, earning a Bachelor's degree in Education and a Master's degree in Special Education from Binghamton University. Kay dedicated 37 years of her life as a special education teacher for DCMO BOCES. She spent endless hours advocating for her students and their families, a true educator and caretaker, changing many lives along the way.
Kay married her partner-in-life Steve White in 1979. They lived and raised their three children in Sidney. As a family, they enjoyed many vacations to North Myrtle Beach, spending the summer by their pool and many gatherings with their extended family.
Kay enjoyed tending to her flowers, lounging by her pool, spending time with family and close friends, decorating for Christmas and sitting by a fire on a summer night with Steve and sipping on vodka tonics. Her true calling in life was to be a Mema to her five grandchildren. Whether it meant flying to Korea, having holiday gatherings at Mema's house with special snacks, or hosting a summer sleep-over, her grandchildren always knew the sacred place in her heart they occupied.
She is survived by her husband, Steve, and their children Erin (Meaghan) Provost, Sean (Meghan) White and Travis (Kristen) White and her five grandchildren—Braeden, Oliver, Ryleigh, Nolan, and Jacob. She is also survived by her parents, Theodore and Martha Edwards; siblings Dean (Carol) Edwards, Terri (Keith) Theobald, Lori (Mike) Mason, and many nieces and nephews who knew her as Aunt Mo.
