I learned today of Gene’s passing. He served on the social services committee when I was commissioner. He is the most selfless man that I have ever known. He prayed with me when my mother was suffering from cancer. He wrote the prayer below and gave it to me. God has gained a perfect angel. My husband, Izaiah, and I send our deepest condolences to Edith and family. May God bless you all.

So many wonderful memories of our time with Gene, Edith and the family when they were Corps Officers in Hamilton! Gene had a smile that could light up a room! He was a great speaker and could play a piano like no one else! Our love and prayers are with Edith and the family

Gene was someone you could respect and "look up to" - remembering him during years of training and the "Followers" 40th session reunion. Love and thoughts to the entire family. You will be missed but great is your reward. Martha Fleming

On behalf of the Delaware County Office for the Aging, we send our condolences to Gene's family. It was certainly a pleasure working with Gene through the years. He was always very supportive of our agency and the services that we provide. He will be greatly missed. Thinking of all who were close to him during this very difficult time. God bless you, Gene, and rest now in peace.

Our family is saddened to know of this loss, treasuring the Pigford family for their love, integrity and grace. We will always be grateful for how much Colonels Pigford invested so much of themselves into every realm they faced. God has been at work through you immensely. You have both been an instrumental part of our family's journey, and defined the tangible fact - "Love is a verb." We are praying for you all in this tender time of grief, loss, and love.

What a privilege it was to serve with the Pigfords at the SFOT. So many great memories. He exemplified the true meaning of Christlikeness. A man who did not have a pretentious cell in his body. When I told my two sons, Steve and Jay about his passing, their response was “ He was the nicest officer we have ever known.” I echo those sentiments. Well done faithful servant. Edie, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Edie, Thinking of you and your family at this incredibly sad time. I am so glad I got to know Gene, who I found to be a most kind and caring man, a humanitarian, a man of his word, and a man who gave so much to so many. When my Mom died, this poem gave me peace. May it do the same for you. Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die. With Love, Loddie Marsh
