Obituary of Nancy Mae Costello

Nancy Mae Costello Mt. Upton—Nancy Mae Costello, 88, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 with her family by her side. Nancy was born on June 5, 1932 in Wayne County, PA, daughter of Thelma Spencer and Levi Wormuth. On March 10, 1950, she was married to Raymond "Tom" Costello in Hancock, NY. They lived in Deposit, where she worked at Gillette Bat Factory, operated a dairy farm, and worked at Bard Parker. She retired from Bendix Corp. in Sidney in 1998. Everyone knew Nancy as Maude or Grandma Maude. Her hobbies included baking (she was best known for her cinnamon rolls), golfing, spending time at her pool with her family and going to the races. She enjoyed scratch offs, slot machines and computer games, as well as shopping (Dollar Store) and lawn sales. Nancy is survived by: her son, Michael Costello of Deposit; daughter, Lynda (Larry) Russell of Deposit; daughter, Cynthia Costello of Mt. Upton; daughter, Julie (Rick) Peet of Gilbertsville; son, Daniel Costello of Mt. Upton; brother, Bernard Wormuth of Hancock; 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and one on the way; and Granddog, Duke. She was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband Raymond on January 17, 2000, and by her brother, Sonny Wormuth. The family of Nancy Costello wishes to thank Dr. Danielle Knight and the entire staff at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, as well as Chenango County Hospice, with a special thanks to Jennie, Diane and Leah. To her personal family nurse, Brittney Peet, thank you for taking such good care of Mom/Grandma Maude, we couldn't have done it without you. Friends are invited to call from 5:00-7:00pm on Friday, May 7, 2021 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838. Private graveside services will be held in Maplewood Cemetery, Mt. Upton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her memory may be directed to Hospice of Chenango County, or the Chenango SPCA.
