Dear Betsy and family, I was transferring some information from an old address book today and came upon the Davidsons. Seeing your name brought back some lovely memories of Sidney and my former in-laws Jack and June Fort. I did a little online search and learned of Bill's passing. I am so sorry to hear of it. Though words are inadequate, I hope that knowing that you are in my thoughts across the years and miles is a small consolation. I like to think that Bill has had a lovely laughter-filled reunion with Jack and June. Hugs to you all. Kathleen Fort

As a student, you really do not get a chance to know the true nature of your teachers. Having Mr. Davidson as a teacher was both challenging and rewarding. He offered, and expected, 100% commitment and got the most from his students. As an adult, I had the opportunity to work with Mr. Davidson while in Rotary, as well as on the board for the Boys & Girls Club. He brought the same energy and passion to his efforts outside of school as well. His heart was always in the community, the kids, and the people giving their time to support both. He was an educator, a mentor, a friend and an amazing person. Thank you Mr. Davidson for the lessons in school, and more importantly in life. Rest In Peace Sir.

I had Mr Davidson as my teacher in 8th grade English I believe. He was a wonderful teacher. Later when working for NYS Veterans he was chaplain for years and visited my office a lot. It was always a pleasure and honor to serve him in whatever way I could. A very respectful person always putting others needs before his own. God’s Blessings to his family. Kathy Carvin

To Betsy, Tom, Chris and Gordy.....Wanted to share with you the fact that I had posted Bill's passing on my FB page and had over 90 responses and comments relative to the importance that Bill had on the lives of so many, so please feel free to go to it and share it among each other.
I was once told that in one's lifetime there comes a time when ONE DECISION you make may have a great impact on one's life. I would like to share one such decision I made years ago. Every summer, to supplement my teaching income, I would go to Long Island to caddie. In 1974, just 4 years into my teaching career, I received a summer phone call from Bill. He asked me if I would be willing to serve as the school's junior high XC coach. I was quite reluctant to take the position for a number of reasons, BUT, I succumbed and told him that I would serve for one year until he could get someone more suited to the position. After one year, it became two and when Bill retired from coaching, I was to ultimately serve for 31 years. I learned from Bill many things, not just about coaching, but how to treat people with respect. Well, that decision in 1974 impacted myself and my family in so many ways, I could not elaborate here..............I know my own memories of Bill are ones that deal with respect, commitment and love. His service to others have brought many wonderful memories for more than just me......and many smiles to the lives of many and that will be his legacy. Be strong during this time and may your memories serve all of you well.

My condolences to Mrs. Davidson, Tom, Chris, and Gordie. The time we spent living next door to you on Overlook Dr are some of the most wonderful memories from my life. Mr Davidson was such a kind, caring man, and he was always patient, whenever he dealt with me-and I was a very impatient kid. I remember him timing the boys running around the neighborhood so they could be better at track and cross country. This is a sad day and Im so sorry for your loss. But I feel lucky, and am grateful to have grown up with Mr Davidson as an adult role model. Love and miss you all!...Jim Rotundo...

Gordie, Chris, Tom and Mrs. Davidson - Thank you for being part of our young lives and I am very sorry to hear of your loss and ours.
Things I remember - "Tom" - Mr. Davidson said our father's name quite often. Sometimes "Tom!" was enthusiastic because of a wrestling moment. At times with his hand grabbing his bowed forehead, "Tom" was amidst chuckling. or a belly roll laugh. Other times he was shaking his head as if he was warning all of us something was about to happen and it was perhaps ill advised - "Tom?"
The Reader's Digest, his encouragement, his protection. . . . Mr. Davidson was one of the most caring role models in my youth. He was a fantastic teacher, a sensible being - we needed one out of the group of knuckleheads throwing paint cans, sliding down roofs and many other antics I shall not repeat here. The last time I saw Mr. Davidson was at my own father's funeral. During the eulogy I had prepared I kept my eye on him. He gave me courage through his bright smile and his nodding head. After the service he came to me and expressed his great satisfaction with my tribute to my father. His words meant so much to me and I will always remember him as my guide. I strived to do better because of him. I knew I was cared for by him and I felt praise through him. I love you Mr. Davidson - always.

Mrs. Davidson, Tom, Gordon, and Chris, I adored Mr. Davidson as a teacher and a person. I adored your family and loved babysitting for you. You embodied my ideal family. I still remember so much of what Mr. Davidson taught us in English class. Loved the spelling tests and his insistence on perfect handwriting. I still do commas in a series the way he taught us. I saw him at the reunion and we chatted briefly. I told him how I remembered you, Mrs. Davidson, as being so beautiful. “She still is,” he told me. When he learned I had become a writer, his face lit up. “It worked!” he said. Sending you all love and holding you in my heart.

The honors and accolades are all well deserved, such as being the only non-Sidney graduate to be selected for both the Sports Hall of Fame and Wall of Fame awards. Bill (Coach) Davidson was the epitome of a teacher, mentor, and positive influence.
As my 8th grade English teacher he was the guy who advised me beyond the trepidation of learning public speaking skills that I utilize 50 years later. Bill loved to hear my college stories in pursuit of a journalism degree. Always an encouraging figure, Bill’s influence covered many people over many years.
My dad loved having him on our dynamic Troop 99 Boy Scout committee. It was a chance to see him outside the parameters of school.
Condolences to the entire family. This Coach has earned his wings. Thank you Bill for making Sidney your home.
