Obituary of Marie E. Sherman

Marie E. Sherman, 91, passed away on December 16, 2020 at Chase Memorial Nursing Home in New Berlin, NY. She was born on May 14, 1929 the daughter of the late Archie and Mabel (Bailey) Taylor in Franklin, NY. After graduating from Franklin High School, Marie attended Beauty School in Schenectady, NY and received her cosmetology license. She was proud to have granddaughters, Kaia and Shayla, follow in her footsteps. On May 13, 1950, she married Webster “Red” Sherman in Sidney who predeceased her in 2007 after 57 years of marriage. Marie operated Marie’s Beauty Shop out of her home well into her 80’s. She was active in the Grange, Masons and Boy Scouts. She was a very active member of the Masonville Federated Church. She was an organist, choir member, and served on many committees. She helped with the Food Bank and Sunshine committee, church dinners and memorial luncheons. She is survived by: 4 sons Edward C Sherman of Sidney Michael B Sherman and wife Cheryl of Masonville Ronnie L Sherman of Masonville Thomas G Sherman of Masonville Daughter Sharon M Materazzo and husband Larry of Afton Grandchildren: Kaia Sherman, Jodi (Kyle) Edney, Samuel Sherman, Melissa (Paul) Marshall, Valerie (Sean) Bolger, David Metcalf (Andre Speller) and Shayla Baldwin (Tyler Hart) Great-Grandchildren: Jaden and Ava Hurd, Asa and Kinsley Edney, Katherine and Maston Marshall, Seamus and Declan Bolger She was predeceased by her brother Vernon Taylor. Marie will be remembered as an avid reader, a great cook, and someone who loved to play cards and piano. She never refused a beverage. There were always homemade cookies or some treat to eat. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. During this holiday season, we remember how she played Christmas carols for the family to sing along with. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial gifts can be made in her name to the Masonville Federated Church or the Masonville Emergency Squad.
