Obituary of Barbara A. Ritter

Barbara A. Ritter AFTON—Barbara A. Ritter, 89, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2020 at Delhi Rehabilitation & Nursing Center where she had resided since August. Barbara was born on July 11, 1931 in Binghamton to the late Fred B. and Grace T. Crandall. She was married to William H. Ritter and they made their home in Afton until his untimely passing in 1980. Following his death, she got a job in the Afton Central School cafeteria before moving to Sidney in 1981. There, she worked for The Hospital cafeteria until her health forced her to retire in 1992 when she moved back to Afton. Barb enjoyed Afton and walking into town for banking and groceries, as she never drove. In her younger years, Barb loved the outdoors and could often be found gardening or hanging laundry. She was creative and artistic; she enjoyed drawing and crocheting. Barbara loved to cook and bake, with some specialties being Johnny Cake, Applesauce Cake and Irish soda bread. She also enjoyed watching movies like Star Trek and Star Gate. She will be missed by: her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Jr Shaffer of Afton; six grandchildren: Stacy Shaffer and fiancé Jayson Zorda; Keegan Bailey and his wife, Ilene; Corey Bailey and his wife, Candice; Timothy Bailey and his fiancé, Paige; Christina Tefft and her husband, Jamieson; and Devyn Shaffer and his girlfriend Ashley Hogan; 9 great-grandchildren: CJ Williams; Kelcie and Rees Tefft; Dakin, Taryn, Faye and Rileigh Bailey; Nava and Orli Bailey. Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 from 10:00am to 12:00noon at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney.
