A TRIBUTE TO THE MEMORY of MY LATE BROTHER SEAN, who now rests in peace, after 62 years away from his home in Garravane
In Sept 1939 when Hitler was heading for Poland and Paddy for Holyhead, Sean aged 4 months old, in his mother's arms was among the large amount of Irish who left England, at that time.
Sean grew up, in Garravane on a farm. He met the tail-end of all the old fashioned ways of working, hand milking cows, turning thaobh fhods, mowing hay with horses.
At the age of eighteen, he went to England for 6 months and then to the US, where he spent 61 years.
He always remained in close contact with his parents and family at home in Ireland. He always remembered birthdays and first holy communions of all his siblings. On many occasions, he helped to keep the wolf from the door at home.
I will never forget the kindness of that man, the longest day I live.
I have no doubt, God will reward him, for all his good deeds.

He was proud of that uniform, as he was proud to be a US Marine and a Son of Ireland. I'll miss being able to E-mail him Genealogy Questions. John and I were friends as well as being cousins as long as I remember. We were both born in London and came to live in Ireland in 1939. His father John Joe was my Godfather and my father Dave was John's Godfather.We continued our childhood friendship over the years and always kept in touch, corresponded regularly and visited each other on many occasions. Tom and I visited John and Pam in New York and they visited us in Littleton, Co Tipperary. John was a very active man. He had a brilliant mind and a phenomenal memory . May John rest in peace and may God comfort his wife Pam and his sisters and brothers and their families.
