Obituary of Fun wah Chin
Fun wah Chin, 78, of the Town of Butternuts, New York, unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2019, at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Born July 14, 1940, in Hong Kong, Fun wah (aka Bill and Fan) was the son of Edward Wu and Pauline Chin. Fun wah immigrated to the United States in the late 1940's and lived in Bronx, NY. He also lived in Lakewood, NJ, Atlantic Highlands, NJ, Eatontown, NJ, and Winthrop, ME. In 2001, he made his home in the Town of Butternuts (Mount Upton), New York. As a youngster, Fun wah helped his parents with their restaurant and then their chicken farm.
In his late teens, Fun wah became great friends with The Huey Family, especially with Tommy Huey, from Princeton, NJ, who he considered to be his brother. He married Maryann Dziezyc in 1969. He enjoyed traveling (and eating) all around the country and the world. He owned a Chinese restaurant in Augusta, ME, he was a driving instructor, he gave cooking and driving classes, and he was a meticulous upholsterer for King's Furniture in NJ. Since he moved to the Mount Upton area, he has enjoyed working on his farm, fishing, gardening, helping others, and playing with his dog, Sid.
In 2012, he met his significant other, Anne Shaw, from Bainbridge. They spent the ensuing years laughing, traveling, going to yard/estate sales, enjoying restaurants around the area, and spending time together with family and friends. Fun wah is survived by his beloved, Anne Shaw, his dear friends, Tommy and Gloria Huey, his niece, Olivia da Roza, and his two nephews, Carlos da Roza and Frederick da Roza.
Fun wah was predeceased by his mother, Pauline Chin, his father, Edward Wu, his sister, Mai Hing da Roza, and her husband, Carlos da Roza.
A memorial service followed by a "Celebration of Life" reception will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 1 Church St., Bainbridge, NY, on Sunday, July 14, 2019, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. All are welcome to join us for both events. Fun wah was full of life and laughter so we would like to remember him that way on what would have been his 79th birthday. Please bring some stories to share during the reception. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a charitable contribution, in his name, to your local animal shelter.
