Obituary of Martha Y. Smith

Martha Y. Smith, 89, of Bainbridge, passed away peacefully June 3, 2019, at Wilson Regional Medical Center in Johnson City, New York.

Martha was born on a cold winter night, February 16, 1930, at "the little place" in Afton, NY, the ninth of 10 children of Clarence and Isabelle (Hatton) Youngs. In April of 1948, she married Douglas R. Smith of Bainbridge, who predeceased her in March of 1990.

She shared her quick wit and great sense of humor in all she did, especially while working at the Borden R&D Lab and Resin Plant Offices, the BGCS Business Office, and the Afton CS Business Office. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bainbridge, a kind and generous woman, and above all, a wonderful mother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Martha is survived by her children: Joan (David) Lieb, David R. Smith, and Thomas C. Smith; a sister, Eileen Keeler; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas; a son, Richard D. Smith in 1974, six brothers and two sisters.

In keeping with Martha's wishes, there will be no visitation or service, and burial will be private, at the convenience of the family.
