Mary Scanlon Briggs, known as "Mickey" by many, 90 of Afton, passed away peacefully late Saturday night, April 17, 2010 at her home. Mary was born on January 23, 1920, daughter of the late John Lee and Mildred (Bender) Scanlon in Tunnel, NY. She graduated from Afton Central School with the Class of 1938. On May 13, 1946, Mary married Norman R. Briggs. He predeceased her on September 17, 1994. Mary was an employee of Amphenol Corp., at that time Bendix, until 1957. She attended St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Afton where she was on the vestry. Later, she attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Sidney and Afton Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was predeceased by her sisters Eleanor Scanlon Vitkus and Lucy Scanlon Visalli, and her brothers, John Scanlon and Louis Scanlon.
Friends are invited to call from 12 noon to 2:00 pm on Friday, April 23, 2010 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838. Funeral services will follow at 2:00pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 25 River Street Sidney. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Afton, NY. Memorial contributions in Mary's name may be directed to Hospice & Palliative Care of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St. Norwich, NY 13815, or to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 25 River St. Sidney, NY 13838.
