I have just learned of Dr Sherwood's passing and share my condolences to family. I have known Dr Sherwood since before graduating Nursing school. Over the years, I worked with him at The Hospital and many times in the community as a home care or hospice nurse for his patients thru the years. He always seemed pleased to meet with me if I was stopping in to update him on a patient in the community and we would chat a minute or two. He served our community for many years. He will be missed.

Dr. Sherwood had managed my care since 1977. Always a professional....always listening to my points of view regarding that care. Over those 40+ years, it was more than Doctor/Patient. We always found time to inquire about each others family, talk about world issues and of course politics. It was a pleasure to be in his company and I will miss him. On behalf of my family and I, please accept our condolences.

Dear Mrs. Sherwood and family,
Thinking fondly of you and your family in this difficult time. Doc Sherwood was such a blessing to Dad and his care over the years was invaluable. And I remember the times I was able to come with Dad to "help" on the farm (really for me it was just to see the horses). I always know I'm home when I see the Stone House from I-88, a welcome and warming scene, just like Doc!

My most sincere condolences to The Sherwood family. Doc will be missed by all. I remember when he first came to Sidney. If it hadn't been for him, my daughter would have lost her left eye from an accident on the playground at the Sidney Center Elementary School. He cared for my grandparents, my mom and myself for years. My son Joshua played with Max (Matt) when they were little. He will be remembered for all that he brought to the communities of Sidney, Unadilla, Walton etc. I had rarely met a family that was as loving and giving and Doc and his family. Thank you for all that you did for my family and so many others. Rest in Peace.

I’d like to extend personal condolences to the entire family of Dr. Sherwood. The area is going to miss a fine doctor, but you’ll miss a fine dad, grandfather and husband.
Personally, I’ll always remember when my now 24-year old daughter had a weekend scare as a toddler. One that our “Doc Sam” (Samuel) needed help assessing. Dr. Sherwood came in and helped. Together, their diagnosis was correct and we avoided an emergency ride to Syracuse...
Large families are a rarity today. Yours is filled with productive and caring people - a testimony to how it’s done. I’m sure your quantity and quality will all be on call to be there for each other. God Bless.

Dearest Andrew and Sherwood Family Members:
The DeMulder and Mietzelfeld extended family were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of your beloved father. When my dad Tom DeMulder passed away, there were times when I thought I would never recover. But, over time, the magical thing I discovered, was that my Dad was vividly alive in my heart. So he travels with me each and every day of my life, in a different but very intimate way. Know that we are thinking of you at this most difficult time. We send love, prayers and our deepest heartfelt sympathy.

When Dr. Sherwood was my current age, I spent time with him at The Hospital and he inspired me to be a physician and a surgeon. I spent quite a bit of time with him in the operating room and his office on college breaks. He was an excellent surgeon and a wise, patient, kind physician. He talked quite a bit about his children who were a little bit younger than me at that time, he was very focused on helping them pursue their dreams. Doc Sherwood graduated from the best schools and residency at that time, he could have gone anywhere and done anything he wished. He wanted to be a country general surgeon and doc, I remember it like it was yesterday when he told me why he came to Sidney. He has taken care of almost every family in the surrounding tri-county areas at one time or another, perhaps 10,000 people. I specifically remember a lady going down route 8 mountain and going over the edge, in 1990 or so, who ruptured her spleen and he saved her life there in Sidney, perhaps and most likely he saved 100's of lives over the years or advised them and got them to other specialists. He operated on my mom, dad, and brother at various points. My mom adored him and my dad respected him. His loss to the community will be immeasurable. I spent some time at his home, he loved his family, loved his work, loved his patients. He believed in God and respected life. Thank You Dr. Sherwood, and God bless your family.

Mrs. Sherwood (Joan) and family. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your husband, father, and to all of a very special doctor. I feel like it was yesterday that I became to know you at the clinic and so many special memories have come rushing back from conversations around medical information, to family, to grandchildren and especially horses. Also meeting in the most unexpected places more recently as we were on the same flights home in the Cancun airport. He will be forever cherished and loved.

Joan, I am so sorry to hear of Doc Sherwood's death. He was an inspiration to my daughters and I when we first moved to NY back in 1993. He sponsored my daughters in 4-H and allowed them to use his horses for competition (mainly Annie and Storm) . My daughters and I bought our first horses from Doc, Jaime got one of Annie's and Joy got one of Storms sons. I remember when he had done surgery on my husband at the time, Ray Vallee, and when Ray's wound started bleeding profusely, did we call 911? No! We went to your home, where Doc proceeded to clean up the wound and stop the bleeding in his bathroom. That's the kind of guy he was. Doc will be sorely missed by this community. Joan, our hearts go out to you, and know that you and your family are in our prayers. God bless you.

Dr. Sherwood was my doctor for about 20 years, first in Sidney and then in Walton. He was interested not only in my health but always asked questions which made me know he was interested in me as a person, not just as a patient. He never rushed through an exam and I always knew he would take care of my health problem. In 20 years of seeing Dr. Sherwood, I never thought to see any other doctor....I trusted him and his diagnoses. He made you feel like you were his friend, not just his patient. My husband and I both valued Dr. Sherwood as the good doctor that he was with his wonderful bedside manner, always making us know that he would always make sure we'd be restored to good health. I am so sad about Dr. Sherwood's death. The world lost a wonderful and exemplary person. My prayers go out to his family for their loss. I think everyone who knew Dr. Sherwood will feel his loss.
